Drybar buttercup with diffuser blow up

I was using my Drybar buttercup with the diffuser when it got quite hot in my hand and then made a bang noise as if the fuse went. I tried resetting the fuse but no success. I let it cool and tried again a few days later but it is dead and I see soot at the hinge so the wiring must have gone. Question is if this happened to anyone else? Does the diffuser make it too hot. I’m unhappy spending that much money for a hairdryer and having this happen. I diffuse much more often these days and the diffuser is fine. Is there a more reliable option for diffusing? I hate to waste more money and unless I replace it with another Drybar the diffuser is going to be useless too. Thoughts?
