I don't think we have one of these yet... But, if I'm wrong, please do correct me.
I've been wanting to make this thread for a while now, but as it usually is... Life got and gets in the way. But, better late than never, huh?
I've been enjoying many natural skincare products for the last 15 years or so, on and off ( mainly facial oils and balms, but masks, treatments, and body oils and balms, as well. ) I even used to make my own for years ( years ago ) as good natural skincare products were not a very easy thing to obtain. You'd have to try and hunt down quality ingredients and make stuff yourself most of the time. And, that was quite a task! It makes me happy to see that there is so many wonderful products widely and easily available lately. It makes things so much easier! 🙂
Natural skincare performs better for me personally. I love and enjoy using it. My skin adores it. I love the idea of it and behind it. So, I wanted to make a place for us natural skincare lovers to talk about anything natural skincare as I see there are many others out there that are interested, or already in love with it, as well. So why not have our own little place on here? 🙂 So we can share our experiences ( good and/or bad ), loves, favorite products, favorite brands and their news/new launches, discus things, share our daily routines, talk DIYs if anyone is into that, why not? Anything really.
By "natural" skincare here I'm talking about skincare made mostly or completely of ingredients available in nature, like plant-derived ingredients, minerals... You know, the whole nine. 😉
Anyway - feel free to join in! You don't have to be a natural skincare lover exclusively. Everybody's welcome!
A word of caution... For those who are new to natural skincare, proceed with caution. Inform and educate yourself really well on everything you are interested in trying and putting on your skin. Natural does not mean it won't hurt you! And, it certainly doesn't mean it's safe. Some natural ingredients can be irritating for some people. Go with what's good for you, don't force anything on your skin just because someone said it is good. Do patch tests. Be smart. People prone to allergies should pay careful attention to what they use on their skin.
P.S. I am not completely and 100% natural, nor I imagine I ever will be as I do love me some other stuff, as well. But mostly, yes.
@luvgloss13 Yeah, I find it a bit much in the summer. Even in winter, I find that it's rich enough to use on its own without following with moisturizer. I usually put it on at least an hour before bed so that my skin fully absorbs it before bed and nothing gets transferred (and wasted) on my pillow. I do have combo skin (more normal in winter) though so dry skin would probably drink it up. Even though it's so rich, it doesn't break me out. I love it and really wished I could use it more!
Ooh, I'm really looking forward to hearing all of these!
At the moment, I'm using two facial oils:
Farsali's Rose Gold Elixir - this is reasonably moisturizing and stuff, I guess, but I don't think it's really doing all that much for me. I've always thought the gold facial thing was cool (I got one before my wedding), but truthfully, I don't notice much of a difference. I'm not sure if that's because there is no difference, or if I'm just not looking properly. I still plan on using up this bottle, though. This oil has a very citrusy scent to it, IMO. And I believe it's mainly rosehip oil, which tends to do reasonably well for me.
Floracopeia's Radiant Rose Glow Serum - I'm kind of loving this one. It sinks into my skin and makes it feel velvety soft. It just feels so nice after I put it on (and smells nice to me, though I don't think it would work as well for the less rose-inclined in this group. :))
Thanks to discovering the Beauty Heroes old boxes, I've got a few others I will be trying in the near future.
- Honua's Aloha Youth Serum
- Honua's ‘Ōlena Turmeric Beauty Oil
- max and me's Enchanted Face Oil
- Also have a sample of Mahalo's Vitality Elixir, but haven't gotten a chance to try it yet
Also, for body oils, I'm currently using:
- Floracopeia's Radiant Rose Body Serum (I love this one - I like to put it on before going to bed, because the rose scent relaxes me)
- Mahalo's Vacation Glow - I've only used it once so far. It's smells strongly of turmeric (I don't mind that), and I liked how it felt on my skin, but I can't really say anything as to long term results yet.
ETA: I forgot about my sample of Shiva Rose's Face Oil (I only have a sample from Detox Market). This one has a lighter rose scent than the Floracopeia one. I used it last night after Mahalo's The Bean and JR's Hydration Accelerator. It does seem to sit on my skin a little longer than the Floracopeia oil, or sit a little heavier, at least. My skin felt a little more oily and greasy than moisturized (but at least it felt like a clean oily/greasy, rather than the sweaty oily/greasy my face feels like before I wash it at night). This morning, my face feels a little sweaty (as it usually does in the morning), but pleasant - though it still feels a little oily, as though the face oil never completely sank into my skin.
I can't believe there are no replies here yet @lyravega! I want to hear what everyone is using! My list is small: Aurelia Night Oil, Vintners Daughter, ML Youth Dew (I'm in love with the fancy campfire smell, I'm such a sucker), Uma Clarifying. I use them all for slightly different states of skin - I love options!
I really want want someone to tell me how La Belle Lune compares to Vintners Daughter. Anyone used both?
For body oils, I use Aurelia (good smells), ML Good Stuff, Nuxe Huile Prodigeuse, a vanilla-infused concoction of my own, and I just purchased one from Marble & Milkweed.
I was lining up my evening routine and realized I forgot to include Sunday Riley Luna in my list above. Which probably says everything about my feelings there!
I love Youth Dew as well. It works so well for my skin! I layer it with Clarifying from Uma sometimes. I have an Aurelia Night Oil to try once I finish YD.
I have used both @fairlywell - I don't find they compare at all.
LBL is a nice, more 'basic' oil (that I'm trying to finish up ATM) but it doesn't give me a glow the way the VD did.
Other than that, the reason I say it's basic is I don't find it does too much of anything. It's ok for hydrating and plumping, etc, but it's no magic potion (IMO)
I was planning to answer Lyra when I have some more time, LOL. Oils are a fave so I have a lot of thoughts. 🙂
yes please more thoughts on oils.
I keep meaning to give the Vitners another chance. But I feel it may have too many active oils and cause trouble for me.
Thanks @Mochapj, that crosses one thing off my list to try. I'm so interested to see your list! You definitely have the glow.
Sorry if this is an old news but I just saw both May Lindstrom and Vintner's Daughter are now available at Neiman Marcus online.
@lexi12121 I haven't tried Pratima yet, either. But, I think @maunet has, if I remember right? Maybe, she could chime in and tell us all about it.
Also, I think @pixiedust2 mentioned she wanted to try it, as well? Have you had a chance, Pixie? I'd like to hear what you think about it.
Josh Rosebrook Nutrient Day Cream SPF 30 ( if that's what you mean ) is a moisturizer with spf. Not a sunscreen. It's a nice, light daily moisturizer. I quite like it for what it is, even though as a moisturizer it is not nearly enough for my dry skin on its own. But, it works nicely layered with other products. But, if you need a sunscreen, this won't be enough. You'd still need a sunscreen on top of this.
@lyravega No, I haven't tried it yet. I took a long hard look at my stash the other day and slapped my hand. No more new purchases until I get through a decent chunk of what I already have.
Ah, the life of a skincare/makeup junkie. Always want something new, there's always something better, right!? LOL
Thanks for tagging me Lyra, I'm still really interested in Pratima. I have three other natural SPF samples that I need to use first (along with my other two faves that I already rotate). But if anyone has more thoughts on Pratima I'd love to hear!
Thanks for chiming in, @pixiedust2 !
Ohhh, I made a similar resolution recently and it's a tough business sticking to it. But, I'm in need of a new sunscreen actually, so I guess I will have to move my lazy behind, drag it to the shop, and get me a sample of that one finally. If/when I do that, I will post my thoughts about it here, and summon you. 😉
Ooo, what samples do you have? I need to hear all about them after you give them a proper test ride! I've been testing Kypris Pot Of Shade spf 30... I kinda like it. But, it seems to be a bit too greasy even for my dry skin. Usually all sunscreens are way too drying and too mattifying on me. I am flabbergasted that something is actually too greasy for my skin. 😄
@lyravega Well my two faves, even though they both have issues, are Devita Solar Protective Moisturizer SPF 30 and Bare Minerals Prep Step SPF 50.
The Devita was HG until they changed the formula a few years back. It's a bit chalky and if you're medium to darker skinned it might leave a white cast. I usually put a drop of oil or Squalene on first to help spread it. But it's very natural and no silicone which is a big deal for me. The BM is slightly greasy. It needs to absorb and I sometimes have to use blotting paper to tone it down before I put on my makeup. It does have a silicone but it's further down the list, so I took a chance. It doesn't break me out so yay for that.
THe samples I'm trying are Suntegrity 5 in 1 sunscreen SPF 30 (it's slightly tinted) and two from Mychelle; the Replenishing Solar Defense and the Sun Shield Liquid Tint. So far I like them all but I need to focus and rate them. No silicone in any of them and they all feel nice. I'll definitely let you know which ones I end up liking.
I've never heard of Kypris! I need to look that one up. Interesting that it's a bit greasy on your dry skin. Now I gotta check the ingredients.
MIni rant. So Benton, the Korean line, has been working on a sunscreen for like 4-5 years. I just got an email and screamed YAY. Well the ingredients are awful. For a company that is usually very natural and doesn't use preservatives, they put two endocrine disrupters at the top of the list. Uh, no thanks. My hormones are crazy as it is. So whomp whomp for me. I'm so bummed 😞
@pixiedust2 thanks for the review! And, yes, def keep us posted about the ones you're still testing.
I am liking that Kypris one... kind of... so I still need to try applying less to see if that'll help. I have a habit of applying sunscreen really generously ( because... vampire! ) if I don't wear makeup. And I don't wear makeup most of the time. Well, actually... even when wearing makeup I go cray with sunscreen during the summer. Anyway, maybe I could take it down a notch, and see if it's still be so crazy greasy.
Yeah, I know. It's costly. Especially for the amount. Plus... it's in a jar. I am not happy about that. I really need to put my paws on some Pratima. Nice ingredients, nice amount, and reasonable price. Bingo?
@lyravega Oh daaaaang! That Kypris is expensive!! $68 for less than an ounce? Ouch LOL. The ingredients look good though. I want a sample. But I bet it's the coconut alkanes in it that are making you greasy. The BM one I use is also greasy and has coconut alkanes too. First ingredient actually. I think that's what companies use in place of silicone to get that smooth feel and keep the chalkiness at bay.
I haven't tried the pratima sunscreen yet, but do you mean the Josh Rosebrook Day Cream with SPF?
For all those who were interested in Josh Rosebrook products, Beauty Heroes is doing their july box with the moisturizer with SPF30 and the sidekick product is the Vital Cream Balm. I'm excited to try both!
TY TY TY. I just ordered a full size balm. But I do need a new ss!
