Low Waste Packaged Products

I am trying to purchase low waste products but find it difficult to figure out which products are packaged in glass or metal. It would be great if Sephora added a low waste filter like their clean beauty filter. But in the meantime, please share your  favorite Clean Beauty low waste packaged product. Makeup, hair care, skin care. Trying to switch all to low waste. Thanks!

Re: Low Waste Packaged Products

I saw someone mention Lush for shampoo bars, and I can say -- from personal experience-- they're super dope. As far as shampoo bars go, you can't really go wrong with them. They also have a recycling program and refillable containers/tins. They even have refillable lipsticks now. If you wanna get a Lush deodorant, get Aromaco. Highly recommend them.

Ethique is another great brand, not just for their shampoo and conditioner bars, but for deodorant bars as well. Fun Fact: Conditioner bars can be used as shaving bars. I'd recommend The Guardian.

Aether beauty has compost able/recyclable packaging. Aether Beauty Crystal Charged Cheek Palette Aether Beauty Joshua Tree Desert Matte Eyeshadow Palette

Axiology makes little chubby sticks that can be used on your eyes, lips, and face. They have highlighters and bronzer, too. They have multiple sets over at Ulta.

If you like subscription boxes, go check out Petit Vour. They've had a lot of low waste products. Everything is cruelty free and vegan.

@Ediko  Youth to the people and Glow Recipe have glass packaging.

Re: Low Waste Packaged Products

@Ediko  My favorite low waste brands are Burts bees and elate. Elate is definitely more expensive but itโ€™s good cause there made out of 100% recycled bamboo I think.. anyway you can get refills without ordering another container and there easy to repot as well. High quality and 100% recommended (itโ€™s a good thing to add to your Christmas wish list๐Ÿ˜‰)

Re: Low Waste Packaged Products

Everyone below has great ideas, I'd add for haircare you can use bar shampoo and conditioner.  I've had good and bad luck with a few different ones, but I think it mostly depends on what you're looking for in your hair care.  Lush and Love Beauty and Planet are ones that worked out okay for me.  I believe Shopper's Drug Mart Quo brand has one as well if you're in Canada @Ediko .  I've always liked that MAC recycles their packaging and gives you a little bonus lipstick or shadow when you bring them in, on the make up side.  I believe I saw someone mention Ather beauty for make up low waste/recyclable packaging as well.

Thanks for bringing this up... Its something I often need reminders on in my purchasing as well.

Re: Low Waste Packaged Products

Chagrin valley soap and salve has amazing shampoo and conditioner bars. Organic and chemical free as well!

Re: Low Waste Packaged Products

@Ediko  I canโ€™t restrict my answers to clean beauty, mostly because I always ignore the โ€œcleanโ€ label. But The Ordinary and Youth To The People are 2 brands that immediate come to mind for glass packaging.

I do care a lot about waste reduction, which is why I finally bought a Terracycle Zero Waste Box. Terracycle has different sized boxes and pouches for various types of recyclable products your municipal recycling program wonโ€™t accept. Buy a pouch or box, fill at home, and use the free shipping label to send it back. The large boxes are pricy, but worth it if multiple folks in your home use it, or if you split usage with friends. Terracycle even accepts sheet mask packaging through their beauty waste box/pouch (I asked them directly about it), including the plastic backing that comes with some masks. If youโ€™re in the US and have a local Nordstrom, see if their beauty dept has a free Terracycle drop-off. If they do, you can use that instead of buying your own box/pouch.

Several brands have free programs through Terracycle, like Paulaโ€™s Choice. And some brands have their own recycling program, like MAC.

(No, I donโ€™t work for Terracycle. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I just appreciate their programs.)

Thanks love! ๐Ÿ˜š@WinglessOne glad my brain worked this time

Re: Low Waste Packaged Products

I dont think real metal is used for packaging, most times its plastic that looks like metal. Maybe im wrong, but all the products i bought that have a metallic color is plastic, again that i think lol

Or... maybe its part metal and plastic, then it makes it hard to know how to recycle.

But anyway what i do is i go with the feels; if its very light and kinda feel cheap lol, to me i think its plastic.

Also sometimes plastic can almost feel like glass, and vice versa.

Re: Low Waste Packaged Products

Youth to the people & herbivore have a lot of their products in glass. Makeup-you can find some brands that are doing refillable containers for their compacts. Haircare- I havent  seen a glass bottle...maybe buy a jumbo size in your favorite. I save my smaller empty bottles to refill to use for travel/keep in the shower. I have found a lot of plastic is recyclable no. 1 or 2. I think it was @WinglessOne  that  has posted about a recycle beauty program. You drop everything in a pouch & turn it in.  I think ulta is teaming up with 1 in the future. @Ediko

Re: Low Waste Packaged Products

@Ediko Glow Recipe is a low waste product.  L'Occitane, MAC, and Kiehl's have recycling programs that you bring in containers for free product or a discount.
