New to hair care

Hi! I’m new to this hair care journey and I really don’t know where to start. I have thin, straight, and medium length hair and I have to wash my hair every day or else it gets really oily. I’ve tried to train my hair but it’s not working. I’ve been using the Monday shampoo and conditioner, I was wondering if it’s a good brand or not. Also, i wanted to know the order for haircare. For example, what do you do before you wash your hair, during, and after?

Re: New to hair care

Hi @kattylyn  - so first of all, it's not really possible to train your hair to be less oily. You get what you're given. LOL. At most, if your scalp is being stripped too much by your current haircare regimen, changing what you use might slow down a protective response by your scalp, the overproduction of oil. But typically it is what it is. You could experiment with dry shampoo if you feel the need. I sometimes use dpHUE Mini Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse 3 oz/ 88 mL as a touch-up wash instead of a full shampoo as well.

I'm not familiar with the Monday line, so I looked it up on the web. It sounds like a decent product line, especially for the price point. Your hair and scalp themselves will tell you if the products are working for you - is your scalp itchy or flaking or breaking out, or is it comfortable? Does your hair look healthy and shiny, or is it dull and straggly?

My personal order of operations for haircare depends on what I'm doing that day. A pre-treatment oil would go in first of all, if using, such as JVN Complete Pre-Wash Scalp & Hair Strengthening Treatment Oil 1.7 oz/ 50 mL. Then shampoo. As I have fine hair, I typically would only do ONE of the following after I shampoo, so my hair doesn't get weighed down: conditioner, OR hair mask, OR leave-in conditioner. Styling products would be used last.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask follow-up questions! I'm not a haircare guru, but my hair looks about 800% better than it used to, so I've learned a little along the way. And others will help too. 😊
