I have really drycurly hair. Looking for a mousse or cream that gives your hair wet look and does not make them hard at the same time

Hi @Anonymous,

To chime on to @Harpier82 recommendations of treatments I'd look into Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture Dream Come True Wonderful Deep Conditioning Masque and Scent & Shine Jamaican Black Castor Oil. These are both great for restoring hydration to dry hair. (:

XOXO,
Marieke

@Anonymous, I whole heartedly endorse both @H216's suggestion of method—'plopping'—and her product recommendation of the DevaCurl Ultra Defining Gel.  I use it religously and buy it in the huge 32oz bottles.  Whether you 'plop' or not, apply it when the hair is still wet.

In addition, to help with the dryness, have you considered using a weekly nourishing or restorative mask?  It's a bit pricey, but I'm also a recent convert to Living Proof's Restore Mask Treatment [below].  I use it once a week in place of my conditioner (also DevaCurl).  By the way, if you don't already, try switching to a non-lathering hair cleanser.  It will significantly cut down on the frizz, breakage, and dryness of your hair texture.

I'd also recommend using a daily/each-time-you-cleanse hair oil.  My preference is Bumble & Bumble's Hairdresser's Invisible Oil [below].  It does contain relatively small amounts of silicone (dimethicone), but I have never experienced any build-up.  It really helps give my hair softness, shine, and protects against heat when I blow-dry, which (because of my length) is basically every time I wash.

@Anonymous Have you tried the 'plop' method? This is where you wash your hair/detangle then place product in hair (I like Shea Moisture habiscus curl soufflé and/or devacurl ultra defining gel- I sometimes mix these with a few drops of argan oil or macadamia brand nourishing oil or just use the product alone followed by oil or skip the oil altogether). Once you have detangled and put product in, put your head down looking at the ground and use a microfiber towel or soft cotton tshirt and basically plop your hair in it. Loosely wrap it around but secure enough for you to move around- this is a perfect chance to go start making coffee/breakfast or doing your makeup (or both!). After some time, you remove the wrap and finger comb your hair - you can use a diffuser at this pint to dry completely or air dry- either way, results will be amazing!

there are a ton of YouTube videos on this technique and I'm not sure if 'plopping' is the correct term- look up wash and go curl or curly hair videos. I got this tip from some of those videos and though my hair isn't as kinky as some of the videos, the technique still works great for me!

oh, I highly recommend trying devacurl ultra defining gel. It is actually the product that made me go curly/natural again after many years of blowing out my hair on a regular basis or getting treatments. If you plan to go more days without washing, us a curl refresher or a hair oil/serum to refresh your curls!

Thank you H216. I will definitely try the devacurl ultra defining gel and will let you know how it worked out for me.
