Henna hair dye

Has anyone tried henna hair dye? What brand did you like best and do you have any maintenance tips for a newbie?

RE: Henna hair dye

Dont use henna to colour your hair!! It suffocates the hair strand and is very very damaging in the long run (even though it is "organic" it does not mean it is good for the hair.) Plus, it will be impossible to recolour or lighten your hair in the future without compromising the integrity of the hair.

RE: Henna hair dye

I tried an at home henna hair dye from lush so it was an all natural product. It came in a really big bar and it sort of looked like something a horse would eat lol. I bought the one with a reddish tint. My mom helped me by applying it for me. She melted it down and applied it for me and then after I had to rinse my hair multiple times because of little flakes from the actual bar. It was a pain to get out and although I did it years ago, I don't think I noticed much a difference.

I had the same experience as @ShyamaL. unless I was in sunlight, I couldn't see the color.

Re: Henna hair dye

I did it and I love it!  I had paid $200 for highlights that were way too stripey in my brown hair.

i did a gloss and not the full dye.  I love it.  I have a few greys popping out so I need to touch it up and it's beginning to fade just a bit so a gloss doesn't hold quite like a full henna dye.  It's been over three weeks now.

it was my first try, I just wanted to make sure I liked it.

ive never recieved so many compliments.

i just wanted a change!  I did wait over three months after the highlight to try it.  I don't think you should try it soon after dyeing or highlighting.

Good luck!!

No! Don't do it!!!

RE: Henna hair dye

Please please please do not use Henna. If you ever want a change you will have to cut it out. I am a hair stylist so I have dealt with it a few times. Certain hair chemicals will actually cause your hair to melt and smoke when you have Henna on it.

RE: Henna hair dye

The last time I tried henna hair dye I could not put any other color over it! It would come through afterwards and the only way for me to get rid of it was to grow my hair out and cut it off. Unless you're trying to constantly maintain your color with it and stay within the range of original henna color that you chose - I wouldn't go with it
