Dry scalp

I have really thick, wavy hair but a flaky dry scalp. Do you have any recommendations on products or tips? + hair frizz❤︎

Re: Dry scalp

I love using this after each hair treatment when my scalp gets dry or in winter months. Oribe Serene Scalp Soothing Leave-On Hair Treatment 1.7 oz/ 50 mL

Re: Dry scalp

@hayhaystone  Depends on what’s making your scalp flaky. If it’s truly just dryness (assuming you don’t have eczema or a similar condition on your scalp), then your scalp needs help retaining hydration. I use The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Hyaluronic Acid Scalp Serum 60ml for this. It contains several hydrating ingredients plus squalane, a very good moisturizing ingredient that helps seal hydration into skin.

If it’s dandruff instead, then you’ll need to use a shampoo that contains an anti-fungal ingredient like ketoconazole (Nizoral Shampoo), pyrithione zinc (Vanicream Dandruff Shampoo, among others), or selenium sulfide (Selsun Blue shampoo).

People sometimes mistake dandruff for dry scalp because they both cause itching and flakes, but they’re not the same thing and need different treatment. If your flakes are kinda big and oily (might even be yellow), then you likely have dandruff. If the flakes are small and dry, then it’s probably just dry scalp that can be treated with some kind of moisturizer like the serum I mentioned earlier.

Re: Dry scalp

@hayhaystone I really like the OUAI Hydrating Scalp Serum for Healthy, Fuller Looking Hair 2 oz / 60 mL AND it's even going to be on sale this weekend!  I find that it feels really hydrating and soothing on my scalp (which is also dry).

Re: Dry scalp

@hayhaystone have you tried a clarifying shampoo or treatment? Sometimes if it's flaky it can be product buildup. Also, it can be hard water depending on where you live. You can add an apple cider vinegar rinse to your routine (you can buy them or make one yourself by diluting acv with water and putting it in a spray or dropper bottle). If those don't work, try the Fable & Mane HoliRoots™ Pre-Wash Treatment Oil for Thinning Hair . Kerastase has the Kérastase Curl Manifesto Nourishing Scalp & Hair Oil 1.7 oz/ 50 mL but I haven't tried it.
