Air Dry Advice

Advice needed! I have fine hair but a lot of it! It’s naturally wavy, but I heat style it straight. I also have heavy blonde highlights and get my hair done every 7 weeks. The hair around my face breaks and I can’t seem to get it to grow past my cheeks. Now matter what I do, products I have used, nothing has helped. I’m going on 20 years with the same hairstyle and I have had enough. I feel I need to stop the hot tools and round brush to straighten it out and embrace the waves. I have tried EVERYTHING over the years to love my natural hair but no matter what I do, it always looks like a big mess. Wavy in parts, straight in other parts with frizz all over. My dream is to have effortless frizz free beachy waves. (It’s like finding a 🦄). I have tried the curly/wavy girl method, but I ended up spending a fortune on dozens of products that were never right for my hair. I love the idea of an air dry cream but not sure which to use, and if that type of product is right for my hair. Help me!

Re: Air Dry Advice

@kapow03 I get good results using Bumble and bumble Save the Day Protective Hair Repair Fluid 3.2 oz/ 95 mL  (to help with damage) followed by Bumble and bumble Don't Blow It Fine Hair Air Dry Styler to enhance waves and reduce frizz.  You could also use #bumble and bumble hairdresser's invisible oil (sorry, link isn't working) between those products, or after the Don't Blow It styler, if it doesn't weigh your hair down.

@kapow03

I had the same problem as you 10 years ago! I was straightening my hair everyday and I stopped doing it and I began to embrace my wavy hair.

My hair was very damaged at the time from bleach/hair color + hot tools. My waves were not as they are today. They were fizzy, not defined and some parts of my hair didn’t have waves because they were too damaged. It takes patience to go back to “au naturel”. The more you hair is damaged the harder is gonna be to have nice waves.

What worked for me is to stop completely hair tools (dryer, flat iron), cut some hair (the tips), treat it with products for dry hair/damaged hair and a LOT of patience.

At that time I was using Redken extreme products (shampoo, conditioner, mask + leave in). I was using  Moroccanoil Moroccanoil Treatment Hair Oil   to make my hair fizz free but today i prefer Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Frizz Reduction & Heat Protection Hair Oil

Today I use the davines love curl products (shampoo, conditioner, mask). They’re the best products I ever used for my wavy hair! I like to use  Bumble and bumble Curl Reactivator Moisturizing Hair Mist 8.5 oz/ 250 mL  between washes to refresh my waves and amika Dream Routine Overnight Hydrating Hair Mask 3.3 oz / 100 mL  everynight to give some moisture to my hair. The more my hair is moisturized, the more defined are my waves.

I hope it helps 💇🏼‍♀️

Re: Air Dry Advice

Thank you for your response. I appreciate your advice. Did you just let your hair air dry at first? Or did you scrunch it with products? My front pieces are shorter than the rest of my hair, so they get kind of wonky and bushy looking in the front. It’s a struggle to look put together for work. 😞

@kapow03
Just air dry with leave in conditioner and I add hair oil to remove frizz when they’re dry.
Some people might find that styling products + scrunching it might work better for them.

Maybe for the front part, bobby pins + some styling products to tame it?
