the firing of sephora partime workers.

the way sephora or the head of one of the richest companies louis Vuitton group fired these employees was unethical..degrading at this time...

RE: Re: the firing of sephora partime workers.

It’s the way the went about firing them, that is disgusting. A conference call and did not even give the a chance to say something.

Re: the firing of sephora partime workers.

I mean, it was unethical for those companies to spend all their money on stock buybacks and then screw their employees over *some more* the second they hit hard times too @rrroxanne. Not to mention the taxpayers, who now get to foot the airline's bill here in the US

it's not that Sephora let people go..I wanted to talk abo...

it's not that Sephora let people go..I wanted to talk about how..how they did it..it was brutal..employees and managers given 10 minute prep to say they all had to go on a group conference on mute for employees. ..it is that that makes me angry..ir can be done more humanely and compassionately

Re: it's not that Sephora let people go..I wanted to talk abo...

Yeah I gotta say @nat57 , in an environment where it's not like they all have company issued email accounts and there's thousands of people to notify... I wouldn't fault them for that. They really didn't likely have any good options. And given that a few states had already issued safer at home guidance that far surpassed sephora's initial "we'll be back" date I'd say the writing was already kind of on the wall for any employee paying attention. What would be crappy, and I can't say as I'm not an employee, would be if they continued to not communicate between their first and second announcements to employees who no doubt asked questions

@nat57

I was told by my employer via text message. It sucks all around. This entire situation with Covid is unique and no one has gone through it before.

Re: the firing of sephora partime workers.

They didn't fire anyone. They had to let workers who barely worked there go. If they didn't they couldn't continue to pay all of their full-time workers for the next 2 months even though they aren't working. The people they let go got a severance package which typically doesn't happen. They will be fine. A lot of people are losing their jobs right now and it's not because of Sephora or the LV group. There is a GLOBAL pandemic that is causing this. I know that it's hard but you are not alone in this. Seek support through your family and friends. If you need financial help contact your bank. Many banks are providing help at this time. They can wave late fees for a couple months and allow you to pay payments later etc. I hope this helps!

Re: the firing of sephora partime workers.

Take a look at what you just wrote. Many will not be "fine". Sephora will not give employees real full-time hours. 5 hours a day for most. This way they don't have to give them coffee breaks or a lunch break. Barely worked there? I don't think so. A severance package of a week from reduced hours is barely anything at all. So many employees must have a second/third job just to get by but will gladly work more hours at sephora if given.

Re: the firing of sephora partime workers.

Severance PKG not what you think. It was not enough to live in a week and they were fired without notice and punished for "hardly working there" when most would have loved more hours I'm sure.

Re: the firing of sephora partime workers.

These employees we're punished for being part time employees by a multi million dollar company. Most part time employees beg for more hour but are not given them so no benefits will need to be given. My daughter didn't qualify for unemployment in Georgia. She wanted to work more. Can't pay bills. What a horrible company. I hope our government punished them in some way, and all those employees should ban together and see what can be done about it

Re: the firing of sephora partime workers.

Yeah based on this response @gikat6 I'd wager you have never worked in retail and clearly come from a well-off family. Some people- especially the kind of people who work retail full time- do not have friends and family they can rely on. Many of their friends and family were likely also working jobs that have disappeared in the lase month. Further, most retail establishments classify a lot of- if not most- employees as "part time" even if they work 30+ hours so that they can get out of federal and/or state requirements to pay benefits leaving many employees trying to get second jobs, remaining underemployed, or in a very precarious position if they are over 26 trying to work and finish school, take care of kids, whatever, with no health coverage and little pay.

Yes it was good of them to pay severance, but they will not all be fine- you are not being realistic

Re: the firing of sephora partime workers.

They fired all the PT in my store, which was 21 people. Most of us worked 20+ hours per week while handling school or a second job. Not every store is the same so please check your facts. And you are speaking as if you know the amount of our severance packages. People have rent to pay and groceries to still buy, and other bills which a small severance check will not cover. It's not that they had no choice but its the way they fired everyone that was wrong. Again whatever applies to yourself doesn't apply to everyone else. Yes we will file for unemployment and seek help but once the pandemic is finally over our Sephora jobs are NOT guaranteed and have no job security.
