Workout Accountability/check-ins

Hi All,

Hoping people would be interested in this.

I want to work out regularly and have a group of people who can keep each other accountable, just do daily check IN’s. I keep falling off the routine and then get into inertia and then it takes few weeks to couple of months to start back up. I am still not fully recovered after last years health issues and excercising is imperative to my health and everyone’s health.

Please let me know your ideas !! We can structure it how everyone wants it.

I was thinking a check in and any tips people have, every day. This is the social group I interact most with and love the company of you kind and fun ladies.

Also let me know if we need to move this thread in any other group.

Some tips I learned for athletic/ athleisure clothes I used buying new workout clothes as my motivation incentive for being consistent for 1 months rather than any food incentive. Used points to convert to gift cards and then bought 2 sets during sales. Before this I just had 1 legging and 2 Costco shirt. I didn't want to spend any money till I convinced myself that I would consistently use the clothes. Now I do so did some shopping 🙂

Leggings (criteria not rolling down on tummy fat, not needed to be pulled up a lot during the workout) -

  • Old Navy compression leggings - Very highly recommended and affordable
  • Athleta Contender Leggings - Mid range, they have sales (semi-annual and general)
  • Zella Live-in leggings from Nordstorms (people stock-up during anniversary sales)
  • Sweaty Betty Power Leggings
  • LuluLemon Fast & Free - High price but people love these
  • Reebok Cotton 7/8 - I love these for yoga. These are my most "roll-down-proof-during-downward-dog" on my tummy since I gained mass in mis-section after surgeries.
  • Nike Dry Fit etc. from big box sporting goods store (name starts with D)

Shirts -

  • I like short sleeve so most of mine are from Costco (Tuff brand or Kirkland)
  • Tanks from Athleta. They have most of their styles in all sleeve length (from Tanks, short sleeves as well as long sleeve shirts)
  • Tanks from Old Navy
  • Calia by Carrie Underwood - I have been eyeing some but waiting for them to go on sale
  • Nike Dry-Fit
  • Under Arrmer compression shirts

How to take care of your workout clothes - I learnt about these recently. I always bought workout clothes from clearance racks in the past so used to just wash with regular clothes in normal cycle. That can cause them to fade soon. If investing in pricier/ better clothes, better take care of these 🙂

  • Wash in cold/ delicate/ "activewear mode" if your machine has one
  • If not washing immediately, let them air out if wet and not put it in hampers
  • Line dry or tumble dry WITHOUT heat
  • If too sweaty/ too stinky soak in a bucket full of water with 1/2 cup white vinegar overnight and then dump in the wash

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

Ha ha that gif is about how I feel, @JaneanBT

I love VS sports bras and leggings, haven’t tried anything from Athleta yet but I’d like to. Nordstrom Rack always has some cute stuff, too.

Hope you have AC, I would not want to work out without it!

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

@JaneanBT  How did you do that anime? cute !

For workout clothes, I have been reading for recos and found people like Old Navy leggings a lot, tanks also. Victorias Secret Knockout legging. Athleta Contender leggings get high marks consistently. They had semi-annual sale which made it pretty sweet deal that I cashed some of my points for gift card and got a legging and a tank (first time ever !! I just too a plunge). It's pricey but I have heard really good things about Lululemon Fast & Free leggings as well.

I have couple of Reebok from Bigbox sporting goods store (name starts with D but it wouldn't let me post the name :D) sale section with side pocket. They are cotton so great for yoga (feet don't slip in tree pose) and have side pockets. Might not do well for high sweat workouts. I like them but before I was educated in whole athletic wear, I washed them with regular clothes so they are bit faded. I don't mind that though.

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

@naturalooks15 ,

It's a GIF of a actress I found online but it represents my current work out...situation lol.

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

@naturalooks15  thank you for updating my goals! I was busy and skipped the gym today but will get back to it tomorrow and make up for it on Friday 🙂

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

I forgot to add my goals in.  Exercise 5-6 days a week (Lifting and cardio) add more HITT cardio in, id say 2x-3x a week.  Hit my macro numbers everyday.  Drink more water (i have been slacking on that).  I will add the rest of my goals as I really dial in this week, my trainer is changing up my plan so I am going to talk to him about my goals tonight and ill add them in.  🙂

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

@jen143xo  Added your goals to the initial post.  Good one on adding more water. I need to add it to my goals as well. Eventhough I don't like soda and water is the only thing I drink, I just don't drink it enough. Need to get into habit of keeping a bottle with me while working.

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

@naturalooks15 Once again thanks for looking out when I fall off the wagon!

I missed a check-in last week, but I did well! I went to the gym twice and 1 regular-intensity yoga class and another slow flow! I didn't do much besides that though, since the heat index was like 110 at work (where I logged 50 km walking and going up stairs) so I was pretty tired and dehydrated all week

This week I fell off a bit, I got to the gym once, but I didn't get to yoga and not much walking outside of work (again 50km there). I had a lot of social obligations over the week that left little to no time to get to the gym, hoping to make up for lost time this week since my husband's away for work so I'll have nothing better to do lol

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

That is a lot of walking @Brutalitops  a workout in itself !! Good work. Thanks for the update.

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

Wow my check ins are not going super great - sorry about that, @naturalooks15!

I was back in TX this week for work so i hit up the spin studio i used to frequent when i lived here. Looooove it so much. The spin classes here (let me know if you're in the DFW area and want a rec, i'll PM) are much more choreography based than others i have been to. It's great for the abs/obliques. Anyway! That was a great way to see old friends.

I have the Shred (aka barry's bootcamp knockoff) workouts planned for all next week. Since i'm home i will be able to workout each day. Plus, my partner is traveling so i'll probably do some lunchtime yoga or double up on workouts, too. I like to do this when i'm the only one at home because, 1. it keeps me busy, and, 2. makes me get out of the house to talk with people.

Check in again hopefully soon!

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

@naturalooks15

1st off, thank you for creating such a great thread! 2nd, can I join???

After dealing with some health issues not too long ago, I have been *trying* to get back into the routine of working out. My goals are very slim right now as I am just getting back on the wagon but I plan to be committed to exercising at least 3x a week. I have been doing personal training/weight lifting 2x a week but would like to add in a 3rd day of boot camp (class) and a 4th day of just cardio (running). I will need a lot of encouragement as I only like to work out after work but always come home exhausted lol I will try to do weekly check ins and see how that goes 😊

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

@gonerogue  You can do it! I think starting off with smaller, obtainable goals is the way to go, it's so easy to just stop all together if you feel like you're never going to get there. I also workout almost exclusively post-work (except Sunday morning runs!) and a surefire way for me to actually go workout instead of just going home is to change into my workout clothes at work. It just puts me in the right mind frame for some reason and sort of guilts me into going on the days I'm just not motivated. It's like I'm already halfway to working out... works 90% of the time 🙂

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

@MissPuff  Thanks for the motivation! I used to take my workout clothes to work and change before I got off and head straight for the gym but now that I live down the street from my job and my gym, I come home and change here. It's harder that way because I'm tempted to just crawl in bed and not hit the gym and I need to get out of that mindset already. I'm hoping this thread helps keep me motivated by seeing all of you (role models really) work out like crazy on top of having busy lives 🙂

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

Thanks @gonerogue  and of course we would love for you to join us. You are off to a great start.

I restarted with 1 day/week of therapeutic yoga. Added 1 more day after about 3-4 months and now added HIIT 2 days a week.

I hear you on needing encouragement ! I can’t work out on my own that is why even though it’s a stretch, I have joined Orange Theory and so far it has been great. I didn’t want to go y’day and dragged myself there thinking, I will do bare minimum but group energy of class rubbed off and I had great workout.

you can also try and find a workout buddy in your neighborhood if that works for you.

We, of course, are here for you always. Welcome !!!!

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

@naturalooks15  thank you for the motivation and all the positivity! I have noticed the same people (all my neighbors) attend the boot camp class regularly so I will see if maybe I can befriend some of them and have them keep me accountable for attending at least 2x a week.

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

Check-in Wed 7/24: 1 hr Orange Theory

Check-in Tue 7/23: 1.5 hr Yoga

How is your training going @jen143xo ?

@Brutalitops  Hope you are feeling better.  I think I need to start logging food as well. It doesn't help that kids got me red Lindor pack 😐

@scott1201  How is your walking going? Still travelling?

@MissPuff  Anymore Burrito or otherwise runs?

@WinglessOne  Has your knee calmed down any? I sometimes get very stiff knee (when I was jogging/ training for 5K walk-Jog) and just not able to sit down on floor so now I am just power walking on incline during my OTF. Hope yours are better now.

@PrettyPaint  & @Anonymous   runs still on?

@cianni I was remembering you during my yoga session y'day. How are you doing?

@RNGesusPls  I checked with my spouse about tips from nutritionist. Her suggestion was to eat a bite for every mile. He take fig bars or other bars and just takes small bites. Nutritionist's opinion was try and see what works for you. Sorry, it wasn't more specific.

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

I was away last week so I didnt train.  But I went back yesterday and did legs and cardio.  Tonight I am going to do a full body work out and cardio.  I really missed training while I was on vacation but I think my body needed a break! Back on my diet plan also, I follow macros.  I did the best I could while I was away though so I am proud of that! 😄 @naturalooks15

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

@naturalooks15  Heehee, I actually DID have another burrito run! I aaaaaaaalmost made my goal last week (3.75 mile run on Monday plus the 2 mile burrito run in Wednesday). I'm going to try to get in my mileage for this week since the weather has FINALLY cooled off and the evenings are perfect running weather.

I HAVE been going strong at my lifting/gym workouts; honestly, I much prefer lifting to running during this time of year but I know if I slack now, my fall/winter runs will be garbage. Working on upping my weight for dead lifts and back squats and still chasing that elusive unassisted pull-up.

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

Great work! @MissPuff. I find it easier to keep up with weightlifting over the summer too. Pull ups have always been my weakness, so I totally understand.

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

@PrettyPaint  Somedays I feel like I'm SOCLOSE and other days...I was doing negatives yesterday and by the end, I wasn't even catching myself at the top, it looked like I was just jumping off a box for no reason 🙂

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

Thanks for the tag @naturalooks15. Nice work on the orange theory and yoga. 👍 I haven’t run since the weekend because of time, but I’ve managed to squeeze in a daily weights or hiit workout each day this week so far. Today was chest and back! 🙂

Re: Workout Accountability/check-ins

Daily workouts !!! You are awesome @PrettyPaint

I am still not meeting my 7K step move goal on my off days, need to get on that.
