What beauty products have you phased out of your routine?

We see a lot of posts on what products we're loving, and monthly what products just didn't work for us.  But what about products that we used to be mad about?  Do you have a product that you used to use religiously, then phased it out?  If so, please post.  Routines are ever-evolving, so you might have outgrown a product, found a better one, or just lost interest.

Why did you stop using it?  And what, if any, product are you using instead?

Re: What beauty products have you phased out of your routine?

I'm trying to phase out my Alpha Skin Care 14% glycolic acid serum because I upped my Retin-A.

I went from 10% to 14% because they discontinued the 10.

I started using Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliating Treatment with ~8.5% glycolic acid.  I'm concerned that the texture might be a little too emollient.   I'm looking into Neutrogena Hydroboost+ Glycolic Acid Overnight Peel which is 10%.  I'm concerned about how thick or thin the consistency is.

Re: What beauty products have you phased out of your routine?

I very rarely use eye liner anymore. It used to be a top 3 product! I'm trying to use it but for a long time I didn't use any at all. And I have a fair amount and keep adding more to my wish lists...

@greeneyedgirl107 bottega verde and yves rocher products. I used to be obsessed with their skincare lines, but after years of using them consistently, I started to look around and I found much more interesting options. Bottega verde is an italian brand. I used to love their bath products. But I started to have skin issues with them, my skin started to peel and feel dry. I now use Erbolario or drugstore products instead. Yves rocher is a french brand. Their prices are now very high compared to a few years ago, and I don't like their new formulas.

Bareminerals, I remember I thought I NEEDED it.

Re: What beauty products have you phased out of your routine?

@greeneyedgirl107  Oh gosh, where do I begin? 🤣

Origins skincare - I used their products for 20something years. Trying to remember them all... Origins Checks and Balances™ Frothy Face Wash  , Origins United State™ Balancing Tonic 5 oz/ 150 mL  , Origins Super Spot Remover™ Acne Treatment Gel with Salicylic Acid 0.3 oz/ 10 mL  , a moisturizer they don't make anymore (don't recall the name), a couple of their A Perfect World products, Origins High-Potency Night-a-Mins™ Resurfacing Cream with Fruit-Derived AHAs 1.7 oz/ 50 mL  , Origins Plantscription™ Anti-Aging Cleanser 5 oz/ 150 mL  , Origins PLANTSCRIPTION™ Multi-powered Anti-Aging Peptide Serum , and probably a couple more I'm forgetting. This was before I knew my facial skin hates essential oils and lavender extract, which Origins products are loaded with. They were slowly wrecking my skin over time. In my 40s, I had to ditch all those products because my skin threw a big painful visible tantrum over them. Also, the Checks and Balances cleanser was much too drying for me but of course I didn't realize it sooner because hey, "squeaky clean" skin is good, right? 🙄 Origins is the reason I began learning about skincare: I had to replace my entire skincare routine. The only Origins skincare product I still use is the Clear Improvement clay & charcoal mask.

KORA Organics Noni Glow Radiant Eye Oil .34 oz / 10 mL  - Used to be one of my undereye hydration boosters. I still think it's a great product. But once I tried e.l.f. Nourishing Facial Oil which costs $30 USD less, I switched for good.

SEPHORA COLLECTION Cleansing & Exfoliating Wipes - The coconut ones were my jam. But I tend to rub too hard with makeup wipes, resulting in inflammation. I've stopped using all brands' makeup wipes, even for removing hand/arm swatches.

Lancôme SKIN FEELS GOOD Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 23 - Still a product I recommend, especially since they've expanded the shade range. (My shade was Sweet Honey.) Something in it started irritating my skin a bit—probably one of the fragrance ingredients. Also, I very rarely use tinted moisturizers anymore, aside from tinted sunscreens at or above SPF 30. When I do use a tinted moisturizer, it's usually a Laura Mercier product.

Liquid and cream foundations - Rather than list them all, I'll just say I stopped using them in my mid to late 40s and began focusing on skincare to balance my skin tones and reduce some surface redness. Also, no liquid or cream foundation was ever a good enough skin tone match for me, and I hated trying to find good matches.

I'm sure I can list more products later.

Re: What beauty products have you phased out of your routine?

Ooo what a great thread idea @greeneyedgirl107 !

I never thought I would become a minimalist with my routine, but I have. I have phased out quite a few HG’s…

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Extra Strength Daily Peel Pads  those that recognize me on here will know I could not get enough chemical exfoliants…I would use these daily. I haven’t touched them in a year.

Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One AHA Lactic Acid Treatment 1.7 oz / 50 ml  have a bottle 70% full I just retired from using. It doesn’t fit within my current skincare routine.

Olaplex No. 9 Bond Protector Heat Protection & Frizz Reduction Nourishing Hair Serum 3 oz / 90 mL
Olaplex No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Damage Repair Hair Mask Treatment 3.3 oz/ 100 mL

Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Frizz Reduction & Heat Protection Hair Oil

out of loyalty to the brand I kept trying to like them and make them work, and I just don’t. They’ve gone to the retired land of hair products (to my nieces).

Re: What beauty products have you phased out of your routine?

I can think of two products that I phased out of my routine.  One is Kiehl's Since 1851 Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado .  I posted it on my Monthly Favorites, and I was digging it for a time.  Then it just stopped giving me that glow.  I think it was because the antioxidants in the jar packaging probably became inactive.  Lesson learned!

I also stopped using Paula's Choice Omega+ Complex Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL .  I used to use it on my eye area.  I stopped seeing the brightening effect, and it began to sting a little.  I don't know what the difference was.  The product is in the airtight packaging, so I can't blame that aspect.

ETA: I also stopped using Vaseline in favor of Aquaphor.
