Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, welcome to YEAR 6 of the Pan It Challenge!

ElleElleG_1-1672620471899.gif

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Past Panning Challenges:

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Cissy63 Nicely chosen items.  I'm curious to see the embossing disappear!  Also... great table cloth!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@missjeanie   Oh thank you!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Cissy63 I can't wait to watch your progress! Those are great items.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Samtian  Oh thank you for saying that. 🌹

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Cissy63 this is a very thoughtful project! i like how a lot of these are newer products that you're playing with to see if they're loves! it can be hard to keep up using all the products in our collection, so prioritizing some is a must! i miss the tarte blushes. i'm interested to see if you end up falling in love with this one! sometimes i wonder if the product is as good as i remember, or if it was just really good for the time. i think my first tarte blush was in 2016 or 2017, but i know blush formulas have come a long way since then!

good luck with these products!!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@cianni  Thank you!  Oh yes this blush has been in my drawer a while 😉 I’ll see what it has to offer!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Normally I would wait till the end of the month to post an update but… ELIZABETH AND JAMES NIRVANA AMETHYST IS OFFICIALLY DONE! I’m very sure I purchased this 30ml bottle in winter 2018 because although I bought it at winners, I was able to test it in store at my local Sephora. Realizing how long is takes to finish a 30ml bottle has definitely been eye-opening… though I doubt it’ll slow my fragrance accumulation for too long 🤷‍♀️ I have another perfume I think I’d like to rotate in , so I’ll post it when I’ve officially committed to it! 2023 off to a great start!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@cianni  Oh congratulations 🎉🎊

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Cissy63 thank you!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@cianni whooo hoooo 🙌

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Woohoo! 🙌🏼 First pan of the year @cianni! That’s awesome! Congrats. 🎉 I hear ya about realizing how long it takes to use up products. And yeah, it doesn’t necessarily stop me from picking up more either. 😆

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi i have a fleeting thought of "oh, if it took 4 years to pan 30ml, it'll take over a year to finish this travel size....", followed by "oh but the NOTES in this one!! add to cart!"

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Great way to begin! @cianni. I'm only hoping that sometime this year I might use up one of those tiny fragrance spray samples, haha.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@heavyhedon youd be surprised how quickly they go! i keep a few of them in my purse in case of a fragrance emergency haha. it sounded silly at first but i end up going through them - especially the EDT that tend to not last as long on me

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Congratulations @cianni. I know how hard to pan a perfume bottle 👏👌👍

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@blackkitty2014 thanks! ive decided to keep the bottle as a little trophy/reminder of this success! some of the bottles are too pretty to throw away!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@cianni  Oh wow!! Committing to one fragrance would be sooo hard!  Great job getting through a whole fragrance!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@heartsmyface it's impossible! i really want to be someone with a signature scent, but i find my signature scents are more like a mood ring. you can tell exactly how i'm feeling that day based on what im wearing! i do have one in mind i'll be adding to the project because it's easy to wear in the warmer months, and it's been discontinued so i can let it go (it's also slightly changed color, so even though it smells the same, i know it's days are numbered)

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Congratulations @cianni!! 🎉🎉🎉

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@haleyvvvv thank you!! id love to say im sad to see this one go, but its been hanging on for too long 😂

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge
