The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

• Which item(s) you would like to work on
• How long you will work on said item
• Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
• Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

• share what item(s) you are working on,
• provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
• ask questions,
• encourage others,
• motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

• Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
• If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
• Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc. 
• Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
• Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
• Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
• Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
• Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

• Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.) 
• Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
• Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
• Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
• Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

I will miss the Sparkling Secret terribly since it’s discontinued but I know it was well loved.  I don’t have a back up for TF Rose de Chine. Still debating if it is full bottle love/worthy. 😘 Aerin Amber Musk I do have a full size backup. 🥰

Wonderful work on all your empties @blackkitty2014. 😊 Powder products seem to take a long time to pan but you’ve not only hit pan but used up quite a bit of it

2023 has been a fun year for panning projects! 

2023 stats- My goal was 181 and I hit 54 targets. 

Starting with my most important/biggest goal, pan Bones!! I completely finished this beauty. I'll miss it.

Up next another big part of my project was the GXVE BY GWEN STEFANI Eye See in Color Clean Multidimensional Eyeshadow Palette Simple Kind Of Life quad the first shade.

I also used the CT Cream Eye shadow a lot, though it's hard to tell.

This lotion I was hoping to finish but didn't, I don't think it'll take too long into next year.

These saw zero progress lol-

I have finalized my project pan decisions for 2024 at the start of the month lol. So I am ready to go!

@Samtian you racked up quite a bit of success this year!! that lotion is on it way out too - love when there are a few easy wins at the beginning of the year to get the momentum going!! That SDJ is tough - I have the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Body Lava Body Luminizer Cognac Candy and find it so hard to work through so I feel your pain on that one 😅 can’t wait to see what you have planned for 2024!

Ohhhh, ohhhh, Ohhhhhh!!! 👀👀👀Full pan on Bones!!! You go @Samtian! That is amazing! 😍 We’re seeing more and more pan on that GXVE quad - awesome! You’re really hitting your stride on that one AND the Tilbury cream shadow - she has a lot of product in that jar and you are noticeably working your way through they beauty. Super impressive! 👍🏼 Yeah, that Ulta lotion is going to be D - O - N - E  Done!!! before too long! Way to close out the year, Samtian!

Posting my last update for the 2023 Pan It! Challenge a little more than a week before the end of the year so I can get a head start on unwinding for the holidays. Also, the items I'm currently working on are far from hitting pan or full pan so this seemed a good time as any. I included a year end wrap up and lessons learned at the end. 

MONTHLY SUMMARY: I didn't think I was going to get another pan / finished product in before the end of the year, but it happened this morning! Woohoo! 

DECEMBER All Star: JVN Complete Nourishing Hair Oil Shine Drops. These have been steady for most of the year, with just one month when I hit "pause" on reaching for it as often as I had been. That did mean a little more effort to use it this month, but I finished the bottle. I have a handful of other hair oils that I want to work through, including some travel sizes of these JVN Drops. I'll hold off a bit so I can get to those; unless something else catches my eye, I'll likely repurchase a full size during the spring sale. 

WHAT NEEDS ATTENTION: My 2024 project pan list needs some attention. I haven't made my final decision on what products will be part of the Pan It! 2024 Challenge, but I still have a few more days. I'm leaning towards including Biba again but if I do, 2024 will be the last year for it. Will be ready with them before the New Year rolls around, @ElleElleG!

Natasha Denona Biba Eyeshadow Palette

Those two shimmery shadows are really hanging on, aren't they?! 😂 The prarie and tone shades suffer from not being ones I gravitate towards often on their own. It's almost become personal for me that I hit pan on those - doesn't have to be a lot of pan - the teensiest bit would suffice. 

Westman Atelier Lip Suede - Les Nudes

Ahhh, there's some satisfaction in seeing more pan here. There's a lot of product in this palette; would never have realized that but for including this beauty in the Pan It! Challenge.

JVN Nourishing Shine Drops

DONE! I made this my hair oil of the month so that I was reaching for it more than I had been earlier in the year; that paid off. 👍

7.	JVN Blowout Styling Milk	See progress in a year	☑️DONE - September 2023	This has been repurchased. It's a new favorite, thanks to this challenge.
8.	JVN Nourishing Shine Drops (this was subbed in when I lost my bottle of  Moroccanoil Treatment)	See progress in a year	☑️DONE - December 2023	I have several hair oils to work my way through, and when I do, this is definitely in the running for a repurchase.
9.	Chanel Lip Liner	See progress in a year	I made some progress but not a lot	I realize how infrequently I line my lips; debating whether to include this in next year's pan it! challenge
10.	WA Lip Suede	Hit pan - 1 shade	☑️DONE - August 2023	Debating whether to include this in next year's pan it! challenge

Overall, I was able to meet 60% of my total pan goals for the year. Not bad, but definitely room for improvement.  

Lessons Learned:

1.  I do better with just one eyeshadow palette in my project pan; I don't use it as much as I did when I first started panning. I've been reaching for other eye shadows this year with a lot more frequency than before and see myself continuing to do that, so limiting my project pan to including only one eyeshadow palette works better for me.

2.  Including hair care treatments / styling products in a panning project is a good fit for me. Having it in a panning project keeps me using the product consistently. Unlike skincare, hair care products can easily fall into the "out of sight, out of mind" camp for me.

3.  Lip liner - I don't reach for it very often, even when it is part of my project pan. Will need to try to figure out another way to get more use of lipliners next year.

@itsfi Is it wrong that this made me laugh??? I can almost picture you looking at that BIBA in the morning and giving it a talk as you stare it down trying to will pan! lol, Excellent use of products and I love that you found some winning haircare!

Hahahaha @missjeanie; definitely not wrong. It’s like the old west, me at one end, one of those two eye shadows on the other. Tumbleweed rolling by in the background. Who will best the other???!!!

(and for comic relief, a dirt cloud will make its way towards me and of course, I’ll start having a coughing fit just as I’m trying to put together my most fierce “I’m not one to be messed with, Biba.” face 😝)

Love how it’s gotten personal with prairie and tone @itsfi 😂 you’ve done amazing this year!! I love how you laid out your lessons and progress - I’m an excel tracker (yes, even with beauty… I have a spreadsheet with basically all makeup, skincare, haircare and fragrance I’ve tried over the last 5 years), so the layout is speaking to me! Good to know about the WA lip palette too. The price was making me wary to try, but knowing it has a ton of product makes it less scary haha
