The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

• Which item(s) you would like to work on
• How long you will work on said item
• Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
• Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

• share what item(s) you are working on,
• provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
• ask questions,
• encourage others,
• motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

• Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
• If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
• Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc. 
• Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
• Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
• Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
• Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
• Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

• Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.) 
• Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
• Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
• Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
• Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Alright everyone, here we go into 2023! I’ve put together a more well-defined “Pan Plan” versus previous years. I used to want to clear out as much as possible (especially DS) because I had accumulated so much, but now that my collection is a little more curated, I can pan a little more thoughtfully.

as empties happen in a category, I’ll rotate with something else. I’ll also keep everyone updated on surprise pans and empties!

fragrance - finally finishing up the Elizabeth and James Nirvana (so close to doing this in 2022!), and work through this cloud body spray. I picked up a bunch of new sprays during the BBW sale in November, and don’t want to have 100 on the go.

Assorted skincare and makeup - some of these are getting to be a little old, or I have newer similar products that I’d like to start using. I can’t believe I haven’t even hit pan on that hoola… I swear it’s a bottomless pit. I don’t tend to wear powder bronzer often, so I may use it as an eyeshadow base.

 

 

palettes - this pains me but my Huda nude obsessions light is in my project this year. It’s one of my most used palettes and I still love it, but i want to work through it so I can either repurchase a new one at the end of the year, or I’ll be ready to find a new favourite. Because I do use it so frequently already, and it’s on the daily wearable side, I’d like to ambitiously hit pan on 3 shades and completely finish one. Huda mini shades don’t have names but the bottom middle shade is what I’m looking to use up. 

The nars ignited is definitely on the older side (I received it as a gratis several years ago), but I recently tested it to see if it still performs, and it does! I used it religiously for a while, and I’m ready to put it back in rotation before it stops working for me. Again, more wearable and plays well with the nude obsessions light, so I’d like to hit pan on 2. I don’t think I’ll be able to finish any shades completely.

 

 

BONUS - I rediscovered I had this face palette during the 12 days of inventory and it’s literally brand new, never used. While I doubt I’ll come close to hitting pan, i want to officially hold myself accountable to using this in 2023. If I really hate it or it doesn’t work for me , I may pass it to a younger cousin and rotate something else in as a bonus

@haleyvvvv thank you!! this is definitely the closest ive ever been to hitting pan on any shadows, so im excited to see what happens when i actually try to hit pan! not sure if the ignited is going to get there, but i'll have to play around with them. luckily only one shade is looking like theres some hard pan on there, so there's still hope!

@cianni , I always use tape to remove my hard pan, but then I feel like I'm slightly cheating if it's a project pan item since sometimes so much comes up 😂

@cianni -- finding a whole face palette you forgot about, great panning perk! You have some nice work ahead of you, challenging but not crazily. I'm sure you're going to find those lippies disappearing fast. Excited to see that Nirvana nearly kaput.

@heavyhedon i think it's one of my more realistic pan projects for sure, but it'll remind me to use some of my collection more effectively. a little unsure about the face palette, this is definitely one way to find out if i like it or not!

My caption gone?? Anywho I am hoping making more progress on TF face palette liked hitting pan on the blushers (will be tough but I need to try). I’d to hit pan on any shade of HG palette especially the face powder. I’ve been using it for a month now and barely making a dent 😂🤣
 
It would be a win if I pan any of these lip products especially the glosses. They’re bottomless 😂🤣
