Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

2021 Challenge located here: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge 🏆

It's time for a new decade, and a new Project Pan!

Before we dive into the details, I want to thank each and every one of you for joining me in another year of panning.  I cannot believe that this thread marks the 4th year of this challenge and how much it has grown over the years.  It's been a joy to witness so many of you participate and encourage others along the way.  For those of you thinking, "there's no way I can do that," think again!  We've all said that at one time or another, and some of the biggest skeptics have grown to take panning by storm.  Thank you all for your never ending inspiration 😘. Cheers to a new decade 🥂-Elle

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

Kick those nerves to the curb, @itsfi !  Glad you're joining us and I think you picked a great palette.  Biba and it's everyday vibes continue to tempt me.  Very excited to hear your thoughts on the palette as you delve into it further.

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

You are always so encouraging and motivating @ElleElleG‘! Thank you! 🤗 I’ve been averaging about 2-3 days per week of of using the Biba palette (baby steps!) and am really enjoying it. 😍

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

@ElleElleG I posted to the 2019 thread and will update here, I have some goals this year SO THANK YOU for the beautiful welcoming post!💕🥰

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

Welcome, @Serenely !  Nice product selection, the Modern Renaissance has been a travel staple for me over the last few years; looking forward to watching your progress!

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

It's finally time 😩😩.  My 2020 project is 🥁 🥁 🥁

December 2019December 2019

Last year I had you all vote for which palette I should choose and it was a tie between this and the Mega Pro 3. I opted for that so I'd have a bit more time with this one but I can't keep holding on to this palette. It's still by far the best ABH /staple palette I've ever had but it's getting older and I want to enjoy as much of the remaining quality /pigmentation as I can. I'll try to pull my photo from last November to compare the progress from then to now.  (Also, I'm thinking I'll exclude Claudia and maybe Lula, but we'll see. )

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

@ElleElleG,

I have the same palette!! I am hitting pan also on some of the shades:)

❤️ Melissa

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

This came out before I got into makeup and I've always had FOMO about it. It's such a lovely palette. I'm surprised it's still usable as I always hear ABH shadows go bad quickly!

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

It seems so bittersweet @ElleElleG. But it's better to use and enjoy it before the quality goes completely bad. You do such a great job tracking your progress and I can't wait to see the pictures as we go through 2020.

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

Welcome @xcicee!! You have quite the selection for 2020!  Perhaps one of my favorite things aside from seeing people's progress is hearing how opinions on the product itself change over time. Looking forward to seeing more from you!!

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

You can do it @xcicee! It's so fun to join. @ElleElleG does an amazing job showing her eyeshadow progress and I can't wait to see how yours goes too. Good luck!

RE: Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

Yes I saw hers last year and it was SO impressive!! Panning things really help keep me motivated not to buy new things as well. I only recently started wearing eyeshadow despite having soft glam since it came out, but I’m hoping to see some progress since I’ve been wearing daily. I do have other palettes I bought recently but didn’t add them into this project as I didn’t want to have too many things on my goals list. I think the most I can hope for is hitting pan rather than Elle’s fully panned palettes.

Re: RE: Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

@xcicee hitting pan is a great goal and no pan is too small to count 😉

Team Mini Pan @xcicee  @ElleElleG 🙌🏼

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

I enjoyed rotating through my blushes in 2019. But I think I'd feel such a sense of accomplishment to pan Paaarty! I think I'll have 3 blush brushes out each month so I will always have Paaarty on deck but can also have a choice of 2 others and *hopefully* by the end of 2020, it will have some pan in Paaarty. I'm already at over 120 uses. I've got to be close, right?

In 2019 I failed horribly at panning lip products. Well, part of the problem was I decided to dig product out of Glace and then it's more of a pain to apply with a lip brush and isn't easily transportable. So I will finish Glace in 2020.

Non-traditionally, I plan on panning tea. I drink tea, not coffee and have loose tea leaves. I enjoy drinking it but also use standard tea bags. I want to focus on using more loose tea. My goal for 2020 is to completely use all of my sample size bags of loose tea (~2 oz each x 4).

I can't think of anything else to pan so I'm going to keep it simple. With skincare, haircare, and other makeup like foundation and setting powder, I know I'll finish those products so I tend to post in empties vs. the pan thread. I can't wait to see everyone else's goals!

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

Here's my start of Paaarty! (of course the picture I took a couple days ago magically was deleted from my phone so let's try this again):

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

You did an awesome job cycling through your blushes @ShortErica, I have no doubt you'll be hitting pan in Paaarty in no time. Keeping it simple is the best way to go!

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

Thanks @ElleElleG! I've been using Paaarty now and will take a picture Jan 1 to see the progress as I go and share. 🙂

Re: Pan It! - 2020 Challenge!

I also own a lot of blushes and teas (mostly tea bags, as I find loose leaf teas to be messy). I try so many sample sized tea bags, so I like to keep the tea bags of the ones I like and put them in a box, so I know the name of the tea when I try to order it.

Tarte blushes are so pretty. I recently purchased the TARTE - 9 Ways to Shine Cheek Wardrobe as a gift for myself and loved how beautiful all the shades looked on my skin tone!
