Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!

**11/30/18: The 2019 Challenge Thread is now live:

Pan It! - 2019 Challenge!

Updated 10/13/18: "

It's an all out panning blitz, aka USE IT ALL UP!  Finish up those lingering products, hit as much pan as you can, and declutter those things you simply aren't in to.  As @sparklekai noted, we need a fresh start to 2019.

Updated 8/2/18: Ten by 10/10 Challenge

Spoiler
We're more than half way done with 2018 which means it's time to reinvigorate our motivation to pan.  The rules are simple, pick 10 things that you would like to finish and let us know what they are (photos welcome). Remember this is about you and your collection. Pick what works for you and know that there are no right or wrong choices!

Updated 5/31/18: New Mini Challenge

Spoiler

FOUR by July 4th Challenge:

We're adding a mini challenge to the mix.  Check your stash and pick at least 4 items that you would like to complete by July 4th.  Any product goes and you are more than welcome to pick items in your respective Project Pan.  This is a good chance to finish products that have lingered in your collection and it should provide some motivation to persist with other panning projects.  Let us know which items you aim to finish by July 4th and of course provide photos if possible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey Everyone! As promised, here is our 2018 Panning Challenge Thread.  To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.
I will be adding information from the 2017 thread over the next few days but to get us started please share the following:
  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item
Please use this thread to:
  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)
Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:
Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you arenโ€™t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, Iโ€™m certain youโ€™ll see some changes ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades youโ€™re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of othersโ€™ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Donโ€™t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  Itโ€™s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be funโ€ฆ.if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a committment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you donโ€™t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particilar shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)
Need some ideas to help you along the way?  Here are a few:
Spoiler
  • Pan a look:  At the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday Recreate a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an โ€œeverydayโ€ look by throwing a different color in your crease or on your lower lash line
  • Roll the dice: pick 2-3 of your most underused shades in your palette and create a look.
Happy Panning!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I had to give up on the Tarte palette I was working on, cause I just couldn't do it anymore, lol! It was super boring with all the shades being pretty similar to each other and the powdery formula wasn't my favorite. The main reason why I threw in the towel though, was because it caused my eyes to water more than usual every time I used it ๐Ÿคจ Finished the blush, still working on the Sephora palette and added the Physicians Formula palette. ๐Ÿ‘Œ61D25EEA-5B33-45B4-A298-641ACA42B0CB.jpeg
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Good riddance Tarte @Shosh85 has better things to use ๐Ÿ˜‰
Nice progress!!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Yes, good riddance is right! ๐Ÿ‘ Thanks so much, @ElleElleG!!! ๐Ÿค—
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I feel your pain on the tarte palette, @Shosh85, once I panned mine for the 10/10 I havenโ€™t touched it๐Ÿ˜– now Iโ€™m not sure what I should do with it. Probably hang on to it for another 10 years, lol
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@eshoe I just couldn't do it anymore! Haha! I have sooo many palettes that deserve some love and it just didn't make sense to keep one I'm so unhappy with. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Making good progress on my regular projects and my 10/10 list.
My 10 by 10/10
Spoiler
1. Aurelia glow serum
2. Omorovicza night cream
3. Herbivore rose spray
4. ABH brow gel
5. ABH brow wiz
6. Stila tinted moisturizer
7. Milk sunshine oil DS- a tiny bit of this goes a long way, I feel like I've been working on it forever.
8. Hourglass ambient light incandescent strobe
9. Lorac pro 3- almond pearl (panned)
10. Hourglass veil primer- I'm bad at using primer, so hopefully putting it in will encourage use.
IMG_0514.JPGIMG_0515.JPG
Not pictured from y 10/10 list are the skincare items and stila tinted moisturizer, which I've made good progress on. I don't think I'll finish the aurelia serum, and an't tell the progress on the tinted moisturizer.
Making good prgress on LORAC's. On pro 3, in addition to the panned shade there's other shimmers showing good progress. Hoping to get more progress from the mattes this month. POTC I can't believe bold spirit hasn't panned yet, but I'm secretly glad because I love it. It is close and there's a lot of progress showing on caribbean. Hourglass strobe light is flattening out, I've kept it out and made point of using it. Getting better with using up the primers. Milk sunshine oil DS lasts what feels like 25 years. I mix a little in with my base almost every day. I love that a little goes a long way but it doesn't always feel like progress.
For next month:
-Keep working on 10/10
-Focus on using up "summer" products/shades
-Project mascara: somehow I got like 2848924 mascaras open at once. Ok. 3 FS and 4 DS. Some are good for everyday, some are good for glam, etc... Regardless of how the open mascara situation got out of control, it's getting pulled back in!
Mascara madness:
I don't love lancome hypnose drama, it's on the chopping block. Pur and one of the lashcrafts are probably on their last quarter tube.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Great progress @CC3616! How are you liking the Herbivore Rose Hibiscus mist?
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@Aaliaa I really like it. This is my 3rd or 4th bottle? I love that my skin actually looks rehydrated and back to life, especially after a long day. I've had other mists that weren't very hydrating result wise but did feel refreshing, like tarte and evian, or actually dehydrating and irritated my skin like mario badescu's line that has artificial colorings. I don't use it as much in the summer because I tend to focus on SPF sprays more, but in the winter it's a HG for dealing with the dry cool air.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Great progress all around @CC3616 !
How on earth are you planning to move through so many mascaras?!?  It takes me FOR-EVER to use even DS ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@ElleElleG Thanks girl. And same, honestly I have no idea how! I rarely finish mascara before I hit the point of "I've been using this for too long and it needs tossed." Luckily I think a couple are almost up and then I think I'll destash a couple.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Ahhh, like your idea of marking your bottles, @CC3616!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@eshoe I can't take credit! I saw it on here at some point along the way ๐Ÿ™‚
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Too funny, @CC3616, I do the same thing...see something awesome and then go back to thank someone, and itโ€™s almost ALWAYS the wrong person๐Ÿ™„
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I got behind so I didn't post for July. I'm having a lot of difficulty getting these pictures to post.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
ugh, sorry you still have to deal with posting issues @Samtian ! Good to see steady progress, I'm in the middle of the "ugggggh, I'm over this" phase ๐Ÿ™ƒ
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
My 10 by 10 is not progressing as fast as I hoped but itโ€™s mainly because Iโ€™m trying different things from my stash every week. BUT I made some progress on my Naked 3 palette. At the beginning of the year I wanted to hit pan on 4 eyeshadows and as of July I did!!! So Iโ€™m happy about that, baby steps๐Ÿ˜Š 9C655189-FCD9-4E06-ABA3-38DC50CF88E2.jpeg
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Hitting pan in those Naked palettes takes forever and a day @katkapivarci and you managed to do it 4 times over in 7 months, great work!!!!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Thatโ€™s great progress, @katkapivarci. Shadows are tough as not all are created equal. Iโ€™m not progressing as quickly as I would like either, but I am happy to make progress, nonetheless. Exciting to see how far youโ€™ve gone in that palette๐Ÿ˜Š
RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
It was a good month... and it was a bad month. Knocking off a lot of items, but i havenโ€™t been able to do anything with my nail polishes because my nails keep breaking, and Iโ€™ve had some interesting things happen along the way (a lipstick breaking multiple times, doing a Frankenstein experiment with some powders, hating a lotion). My skin has been absolutely freaking out for a few weeks now on top of not being able to fade some acne marks clear back from February/March so Iโ€™m hoping a new skincare haul from Sephora and Yes To via Amazon will correct that!! Iโ€™ve got a few things on the horizon for finishing in September, but Iโ€™m glad I made some big dents here in August, like completely finishing my perfume samples (over 30 of them)! August 2018 Empties: -Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream 4.8 g/0.169 oz -Mineral Fusion Waterstone Body Lotion 27 ml/0.9 fl oz -Tocca Stella eau de parfum 1.5 ml/0.05 fl oz -Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo 92 ml/52 g/1.8 oz -Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm 90 ml/3.2 fl oz and 12 ml/0.4 fl oz -destashed: Buxom Big & Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick in Sinful Cinnamon (1 g/0.03 oz) (broke twice and now I canโ€™t get it to stay back in the tube) -Frankenstein experiment: Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder for Under Eyes 1 g/0.03 oz poured into Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation (I detest the pots the Laura Mercier samples come in and these are both powders so who says I canโ€™t combine them; itโ€™s also easy to mix them together thanks to Tarteโ€™s sifter top) -Tocca Emelia eau de parfum 1.5 ml/0.05 fl oz -Peter Thomas Roth Moisture Infusion Facial Bar 30 g/1.05 oz x2 -Rituals Body Lotion in White Lotus & Yi Yi Ren 25 ml/0.85 fl oz -Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream 3 ml/1 fl oz -Rituals Facial Bar in Mandarin Bliss 25 g/0.88 oz -J. R. Watkins Shea Butter Hand Cream in Lavender 95 g/3.3 oz (this is a terrible product, I love everything from J. R. Watkins Iโ€™ve tried except this!) -Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray 118 ml/4.0 fl oz -Aerin Lilac Path eau de parfum 2 ml/0.07 fl oz -Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding 25 ml/0.84 fl oz -SheaMoisture Fruit Infused Coconut Water Weightless Shampoo 384 ml/13 fl oz -Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Rescue Mask 15 ml/0.5 fl oz -Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleansing Gel Deluxe size -Kat Von D Saint eau de parfum 4.5 ml/0.15 fl oz -Head & Shoulders Nourishing Hair & Scalp Care Conditioner with Lavender 380 ml/12.8 fl oz -Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk 50 ml/1.0 oz -Peter Thomas Roth Mega-Rich Conditioner (hotel size) x2
Re: RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Sorry to hear you had such a mixed bag of highs and lows this month @KeriCherryDee .  Hang in there, I'm sure your skin will bounce back in no time ๐Ÿ˜
Re: RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
This is a great collection of empties!  Congratulations on finishing your purfume samples (goals!)  I hope your skin recovers soon, @KeriCherryDee
