Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!

**11/30/18: The 2019 Challenge Thread is now live:

Pan It! - 2019 Challenge!

Updated 10/13/18: "

It's an all out panning blitz, aka USE IT ALL UP!  Finish up those lingering products, hit as much pan as you can, and declutter those things you simply aren't in to.  As @sparklekai noted, we need a fresh start to 2019.

Updated 8/2/18: Ten by 10/10 Challenge

Spoiler
We're more than half way done with 2018 which means it's time to reinvigorate our motivation to pan.  The rules are simple, pick 10 things that you would like to finish and let us know what they are (photos welcome). Remember this is about you and your collection. Pick what works for you and know that there are no right or wrong choices!

Updated 5/31/18: New Mini Challenge

Spoiler

FOUR by July 4th Challenge:

We're adding a mini challenge to the mix.  Check your stash and pick at least 4 items that you would like to complete by July 4th.  Any product goes and you are more than welcome to pick items in your respective Project Pan.  This is a good chance to finish products that have lingered in your collection and it should provide some motivation to persist with other panning projects.  Let us know which items you aim to finish by July 4th and of course provide photos if possible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey Everyone! As promised, here is our 2018 Panning Challenge Thread.  To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.
I will be adding information from the 2017 thread over the next few days but to get us started please share the following:
  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item
Please use this thread to:
  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)
Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:
Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a committment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particilar shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)
Need some ideas to help you along the way?  Here are a few:
Spoiler
  • Pan a look:  At the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday Recreate a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an “everyday” look by throwing a different color in your crease or on your lower lash line
  • Roll the dice: pick 2-3 of your most underused shades in your palette and create a look.
Happy Panning!
Re: RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Thanks!! Can’t wait to throw it out lol
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Hi everyone! Been MIA for awhile, wanted to provide an update on my progress:
From this skincare product photo below, I've finished the Ceramic Slip and Dr. Jart+ Water Drop. I have about 20% left of the Mizon (pink bottle), 30% left of the Boscia oil cleanser, 25% left of the Pixi cleanser, 30% left of the jar of Innisfree cream and 80% left of UFO. I just can't seem to bring myself to use the UFO...it's not a great product for me.
I've finished the pressed powder below and started a new one! The ABH powder duo is still kicking around, I think that's gonna last me years. And the KA bronzer at the bottom has been repressed because it was getting hard to use... still working through and the repressed is showing significant pan, this product lasts forever!
The other pressed powder below has shown a little pan, I'm making pretty good progress on the Hourglass palette (no pan showing yet but the left and middle shades are really starting to flatten out from the sides), no progress on the NARS blush (too many blushes) and I've already talked about the ABH powder duo above.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
So much progress! Great job, @k617!!! 🙌
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I thought I commended you on your progress but don’t see my comment. Great job.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Great progress @k617 !  Sorry to hear about the UFO Oil.  Is it something that can be mixed with another product to get more use out of it?  Or perhaps an item you can swap with a friend or family member?
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Fantastic progress on your skincare and powders, @k617!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Congrats on the progress @k617
Im always amazed when people hit pan...I’m anxiously awaiting my success! If the UFO isn’t working for you, perhaps pass it on to a friend/trade? It’s hard for me to do that too when stuff is expensive, but I’m slowly learning my space and healthy skin is worth the “loss” 🙂
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@pinyo Sadly none of my friends are nearly as into skincare as I am! I have friends who don't have face cleansers or face creams... just prescription benzoyl peroxide cream (makes me cringe!) I've just been working away at it slowly, adding a drop to my normal face oil.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I know how you feel! I attempt to do the same with my makeup since I have too much, but my friends are like no thanks! I have what I need haha @k617
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
At long last my missing pan project finally showed up. It was somehow in a Camera Bag I haven't used for a while...so now I have 3 items total I am working on.
Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I did it! Buh bye old ABH Dip Brow. On to the new one!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Wow, great job, @CheekyKeek!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
OMG this is fantastic @CheekyKeek ; dedication is an understatement!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
WOW! That takes serious dedication. Awesome job, @CheekyKeek
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Hooray
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Surprise pan here... this is the pressed version of the LM translucent powder and it is going fast! I've been using it (with a brush) for about a month.IMG_20180421_141446.jpg
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@fieldsofclover do you feel it was worth the money if you go through it so quickly?
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@sprockettaFor me, it was worth the money this one time but I probably won't buy it again.
Spoiler
I was close to the end of my third LM loose powder (same formula) and was bored of it enough to want to try something else, but didn't have the bandwidth to test a different brand/formula/product type (I'm mostly skipping foundation these days so I don't have much to "set")... got this because it was basically the same product in a different form factor. Some of the reviewers mentioned how quickly they went through it, so I wasn't totally horrified by the speed.
It would be a good companion to the loose powder... like, to mostly use that at home and carry this pressed one around for touchups. I think it would also be lasting longer if I were using the thin sponge that came with it; there isn't a wasteful amount of kickback, but using a powder brush is definitely eating through it in a way it doesn't seem designed for.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Little baby pan! I see its coming along! 👌 @fieldsofclover. 😍
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@fieldsofclover Thanks for the honest assessment. I have the loose powder so I was curious about that vs.the pressed powder. It doesn't seem cost-effective to use the pressed if you go through it that quickly. I don't really do touch-ups during the day except for lipstick. Still, never hurts to try something new. Thank you!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
It feels so good to hit baby pan
