Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!

**11/30/18: The 2019 Challenge Thread is now live:

Pan It! - 2019 Challenge!

Updated 10/13/18: "

It's an all out panning blitz, aka USE IT ALL UP!  Finish up those lingering products, hit as much pan as you can, and declutter those things you simply aren't in to.  As @sparklekai noted, we need a fresh start to 2019.

Updated 8/2/18: Ten by 10/10 Challenge

Spoiler
We're more than half way done with 2018 which means it's time to reinvigorate our motivation to pan.  The rules are simple, pick 10 things that you would like to finish and let us know what they are (photos welcome). Remember this is about you and your collection. Pick what works for you and know that there are no right or wrong choices!

Updated 5/31/18: New Mini Challenge

Spoiler

FOUR by July 4th Challenge:

We're adding a mini challenge to the mix.  Check your stash and pick at least 4 items that you would like to complete by July 4th.  Any product goes and you are more than welcome to pick items in your respective Project Pan.  This is a good chance to finish products that have lingered in your collection and it should provide some motivation to persist with other panning projects.  Let us know which items you aim to finish by July 4th and of course provide photos if possible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey Everyone! As promised, here is our 2018 Panning Challenge Thread.  To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.
I will be adding information from the 2017 thread over the next few days but to get us started please share the following:
  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item
Please use this thread to:
  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)
Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:
Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a committment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particilar shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)
Need some ideas to help you along the way?  Here are a few:
Spoiler
  • Pan a look:  At the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday Recreate a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an “everyday” look by throwing a different color in your crease or on your lower lash line
  • Roll the dice: pick 2-3 of your most underused shades in your palette and create a look.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Good luck with finishing these products @KellW!  I have been looking at the Jordan Samuel Hydrating Skin Serum - will be interested to see how you like using it as a face serum. I've been using my current hydrating serum for years but always like to try different ones out there and have heard good things about this brand.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@Anonymous I've actually had this for a while and initially used it as a face serum. Then, I got freaked out because my face started becoming a mess (due to other skincare products) and I've stayed away from using it as a face serum. Instead, I like to use it as a hydrating eye serum. What I will say is that it is hydrating, dries down semi-quickly, and I would recommend the product to people who want a hydrating serum.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Thanks for joining @KellW !!  It's going to feel so great once you've hit your goals!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
mvp project pan (created by @canoexmakeup on instagram) - my goal is to use 9 higher end products before the november 2018 sephora sale
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
That's impressive progress on the bronzer @sparklekai! I've been using my bronzer for 2 years and have just made as much progress...
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@k617 its actually a cream foundation so way easier to use up!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Ahhhh that makes more sense @sparklekai!
Still, impressive! 😄
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Just shy of 2 months and pan on a face product already @sparklekai ?!  NICE!  Seems like you're already in a good panning space so meeting your goals should be a breeze!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
that bronzer, blush & highlight are going to be a struggle! i'm already debating decluttering the bronzer.  i feel like its too orangey for me
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Those are some beautiful and luxe products that are part of your 2018 project pan @sparklekai! Good luck and looking forward to seeing you hit pan!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
In my Z I'd like to finish the tarte park ave princess bronzer and UD thirteen shadow (top left, from the smoky palette). I'd also like to pan the tarte blush and a couple other UD shadows. In the mega pro 4 I'd like to pan a few shades. It's new to me but I think this is possible since they are smaller pans in comparison to others and super soft.
I'd like to finish the herbivore spray and becca backlight by end of the year. In the POTC cheek palette I want to pan bold spirit.
I want to find new ways to use the UD naked basics 2 and hopefully pan something in it. I've been working on it a couple years and rarely do solely matte looks. I was going to include rainforest after dark but I don't think I will..
Stila not so nude palette. I don't want to talk about how long this has been around. Definitely the oldest piece in my collection. Now I keep it at work for emergency PR events or things that come up after work. I was using that kitten before highlighters were even a thing or I knew what they were, LOL. I think I'm going to take this home, try to finish kitten and sugar and take the rainforest after dark to work!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Another great range of products!   You also have some nice progress across the items which will go along way for your goals @CC3616
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Oh my goodness @CC3616, you are doing an amazing job! So inspiring!  Keep it up!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
You are very motivating, @CC3616! Your goals are realistic! I think I'm going to come up with a list as well. TY
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
That Stila palette has served you well! I'm inspired by you guys who have emergency make up at work - I think i'm going to make myself a little kit to stick in my desk, too.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@CC3616  Wow, you are doing great with those pans.  Good luck with the Mega Pro 4, it should be attainable for the reasons you stated 🙂
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Great goals @CC3616! That Stilla palette is a CHAMP! Totally in it for the long haul!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I have two items that I want to finish by the end of 2018 because I am sick to death of them: tartelette tease and UD Naked powder foundation. There's nothing wrong with them, but I'm ready to move on! The UD is going to be tough because I only use it from mid-November to mid-March about twice a week. 1228170006-1.jpg
RE: Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Totally feel that “I’m sick of using it”. Sometimes you want something new but waste not want not lol.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@MachynesSister you can do it!  Wanting to move things out of your collection is a great motivator, that's what encouraged me to focus on my smaller palettes this year.
Can the UD powder be used to set your primer outside of the months you typically use it?
