Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!

**11/30/18: The 2019 Challenge Thread is now live:

Pan It! - 2019 Challenge!

Updated 10/13/18: "

It's an all out panning blitz, aka USE IT ALL UP!  Finish up those lingering products, hit as much pan as you can, and declutter those things you simply aren't in to.  As @sparklekai noted, we need a fresh start to 2019.

Updated 8/2/18: Ten by 10/10 Challenge

Spoiler
We're more than half way done with 2018 which means it's time to reinvigorate our motivation to pan.  The rules are simple, pick 10 things that you would like to finish and let us know what they are (photos welcome). Remember this is about you and your collection. Pick what works for you and know that there are no right or wrong choices!

Updated 5/31/18: New Mini Challenge

Spoiler

FOUR by July 4th Challenge:

We're adding a mini challenge to the mix.  Check your stash and pick at least 4 items that you would like to complete by July 4th.  Any product goes and you are more than welcome to pick items in your respective Project Pan.  This is a good chance to finish products that have lingered in your collection and it should provide some motivation to persist with other panning projects.  Let us know which items you aim to finish by July 4th and of course provide photos if possible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey Everyone! As promised, here is our 2018 Panning Challenge Thread.  To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.
I will be adding information from the 2017 thread over the next few days but to get us started please share the following:
  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item
Please use this thread to:
  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)
Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:
Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a committment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particilar shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)
Need some ideas to help you along the way?  Here are a few:
Spoiler
  • Pan a look:  At the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday Recreate a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an “everyday” look by throwing a different color in your crease or on your lower lash line
  • Roll the dice: pick 2-3 of your most underused shades in your palette and create a look.
Happy Panning!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Great idea to use all those Sephora Favorites first! I've found some of my new favorite products by trying out everything before making a new purchase.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I consider that pan for sure @Danzie89 !!  Great idea to use up your samples before purchasing a larger item and the samples collecting dust.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
That's fantastic @Danzie89!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Thank you! I’m on a make-up no-buy for awhile. I have way too many back up products and am set on using them all before re-purchasing them.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I like the idea of 18 in 18! This is a transitional year for my collection... I drew down my existing stash far enough that 2017 has been a bit of a spree just to have proper options and a semi-organized skin regimen again. So these are mostly the remaining things I'm ready to get my money's worth from and be done with.
  1. Becca Apres Ski Glow eyeshadow palette (hit pan on all shades)
  2. Becca liquid highlighter in Moonstone (finish)
  3. Dior 5 Couleurs palette in Trafalgar (hit pan in at least 1 shade)
  4. Dior Addict lipstick in Avenue (finish)
  5. Dior Fusion Mono shadow in Millennium (hit pan)
  6. Laura Mercier Loose Powder (finish)
  7. Tarte blush in Paaarty (finish)
  8. Urban Decay Primer Potion (finish)
  9. Clarisonic Peel Wash (finish)
  10. Dr Dennis Gross All-in-One Cleanser/Toner (finish)
  11. Dr Dennis Gross Moisture Cushion (finish)
  12. GlamGlow Powermud Dualcleanse (finish)
  13. La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water (finish)
  14. Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Treatment (finish)
  15. Ren Bio-Retinoid Concentrate Oil (finish)
  16. RoC Retinol Correxion night cream (finish)
  17. Tarte teeth whitening pen (finish)
  18. 24 minis/sample sizes (finish)
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Nice list @fieldsofclover !!  After all that I acquired in 2017 I definitely need to tone things down and get use out of things I like and pass along things I have no use for.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@fieldsofclover
Whoa. You and @concreteroads are #goals.  I dunno if I can come up with 18 items.  I mean, I'm sure I have at least 18 items, that will not be a problem, but 18 items for a pan it! challenge?  Hmmmm... skincare would be more doable than makeup but... Maybe I'll look more into this over the weekend.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@Anonymous You can do it! I deliberately picked skincare items because they're definitely easier than makeup to pan. I think if you pick a reasonable (not too ambitious) 18 items, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to pan or even finish all of them in the next year even with semi-regular use 😄
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@concreteroads, excellent points. Thanks! I'm sure I have some items that are close to being finished and I just need to push through it. This challenge will be a good motivator!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
A lot of these are the items that just won't seem to die, so I'm... highly motivated! 🚮
RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I think I'm going to join this, the products I want to pan is my ABH powder contour kit& my morphe 35O palette.
Re: RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@kaaaylarr I hope you do!  Panning is what you make of it so no pressure 😊
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer.. time for a new one soon.. think its replacement is hidden in the back of a drawer. This is truly the only product I repeatedly pan!  I get about 6-7 months use. IMG_1451.JPG
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@shimmerbait  These concentric circles at the bottom of your Too Faces bronzer are oddly satisfying Great job on your pan!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Niiiiiiiiiiiice @shimmerbait ! And to repeatedly pan the same item: Mind. Blown.!  Panning is great for identifying what you really love/use.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Well done! The last time I saw a pan like this was probably 3 years ago when I finished my last Clinique pressed powder...! Then I stopped using a compact and moved to loose powder so it hasn’t happened since.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@shimmerbait nice job!!
RE: Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Have you seen the latest packaging ! Too cute
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@shimmerbait go go go!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Yess!  Thank you for continuing this thread for 2018 @ElleElleG  I will go through my stash and figure out which products are in the running to get abused. 😄
