It's that time again: time to post about the products that let us down in one way or another. Was your lipstick too sheer? Post here! Did you hair oil make you cry? Hit reply! Was your serum too thin? Weigh in! Here we go...
@Guessgal It really is amazing how long 30 mL can last! I remember being excited about this product, until I read the review on Beautypedia (2/5 stars):
Dr. Jart’s Peptidin Radiance Serum with Energy Peptides has the potential to help skin, but a couple of ingredients in the mix can undo some of those positive effects.
Like its sister product, Peptidin Firming Serum with Energy Peptides, this comes in a translucent bottle with a dropper dispenser, only this one is pink instead of blue. Because of its translucence, it’s best to store this out of daylight so its light-sensitive ingredients won’t break down.
Dr. Jart calls this serum “water-light” and they’re right – it’s very fluid, absorbing in an instant. Skin looks immediately smoother, and this works well both over and under other products as well.
This has a lot in common with the other Peptidin serum, as both contain a high amount of brightening niacinamide, soothing ingredients including oat bran extract, as well as antioxidant plant extracts. Like that product, this also contains numerous amino acids and 8 peptides to strengthen skin and send signals to it to act younger.
But as with that serum, this also contains fragrant bergamot and lavender oils (and you can smell them in the formula), both of which put skin at risk for irritation (see More Info below for the details).
Making matters worse, this one also includes skin-drying alcohol, which increases that risk of irritation even more (More Info has the scoop on that as well). Because of the alcohol content, if you’re set on trying one of the Peptidin serums, the Firming version is the better (but still not optimal) choice.
While there’s plenty to like about this serum, it just doesn’t stack up to the ones you’ll find on our list of best serums
I'm so glad I only tried a Deluxe sample of this, @Guessgal, as I also found it didn't do a lot for my skin. I hope you get through it soon and find a different serum!!
My fail this month is the LANEIGE Lip Treatment Balm 0.35 oz/ 10g for 2 reasons. (I received free to try from Topbox Circle in exchange for my.honezt review).
1. I HATE the packaging. Hate pots. But, hey, they mitigate the whole sticking your fingers in by providing a nice little applicator that rests in the lid (okay, that part is neat). But the applicator isn't just hard plastic, no, it's soft and gummy is and feels like it's going to break off it's handle.alll of the time. Not mention that cleaning it is annoying since because it's not hard plastic you can't wipe it dry after washing with any fabric towels so then it's either full of fuzz or sitting out. I just, it's so much work to use IMO.
2. I have no idea when to use this product in my routine. It's kinda like a cross between the regular laneige lip masks and the lawless plump Gloss. I end up using at the beginning of my skincare so it absorbs before I can do my makeup, but I am not sure if that's the best. It's just one of those products that feels like it's marketed to use all of the time but I wish it offered more guidance.
That all being said, it does make my lips feel softer but not sure if it's hydrating (but maybe I'm not drinking enough water).
@haleyvvvv I wondered about that applicator. Too bad it could have a cleanser in the place where you insert it. Too bad it was a miss.
@haleyvvvv @greeneyedgirl107 I haven’t had any issues with cleaning the applicator. I use a baby wipe to wipe it off and then a paper towel to dry it and then put it back in.
As for the applicator, it’s like the Lip sleeping mask one. You don’t need a lot of pressure when applying it. You just glide it across your lips.
As when to apply it, I use it at the end of my skincare routine before I go to bed. Other days I just apply it in the daytime if my lips need hydration.
Thank you for the insight, @SportyGirly125. I think I'd like to not use so much disposable products to clean it, hence the washing it in the sink, but I'll try drying it with a paper towel maybe.
I've never used the full sized sleeping mask, so didn't know it came with that applicator. Maybe I'm too forceful, but mine feels really flimsy like the top is going to break off with the slightest provocation. I guess I'm just used to studier ones.
Thanks for the insight about when you use it!!
@haleyvvvv You can also use the Tatcha applicator if you have any of those. I keep all my applicators in a ziplock bag instead of throwing them away.
@haleyvvvv I was wondering about the applicator being placed back in the lid. Because, like you said, you can't really clean it off that well. And if you don't clean if off, then I'd like the hole would get gross inside.
It cleans okay under water, but then it's the drying part that's a problem. I might try a paper towel. But yeah, it's not my fave, @greeneyedgirl107.
My miss this month is SEPHORA COLLECTION Size Up Volumizing Mascara Black . It was very clumpy and smudged pretty bad.
@faeriegirl, I'm sorry this was a fail. I think I may have picked this one up at some point. Uh-oh.
That’s a bummer @faeriegirl , I kind of liked it! Lol But I only used it over my other regular one so maybe on its own it’s no good. Boo.
That's too bad!! Thanks for the info, @faeriegirl!!
My past couple monthly miss was unfortunately Hourglass Hourglass Unlocked Defining and Lengthening Tubing Mascara Ultra Black I've tried to make this work every way I could think of!! Bottom line,,, I definitely don't see length, it clumps terribly and flakes almost instantly 😞
@lmaster Ooohh, I hope you had gotten some kind of discount on this, since it didn't work for you!
It seems like people either love or hate the tubing mascaras (this seems like one to me but I don't know for certain.) It's one of my very favorites, but maybe because I don't have many/long lashes and anything seems like a dramatic improvement! I'm in the minority too because I don't really care for the Ilia. I'm the problem child.
@Ispend2much6 the only way I could get it to work decently was with curling my lashes and not using any other mascara, during the summer, I'm not really trying to curl my lashes though,,, and I love to use multiple mascaras 😆
