Newbie

I'm a newbie again! I'm 43 and starting to show my age so I went to sephora for help. I've used the same face wash since I was 15 and have not wore makeup for over 10 years. They did suggest awesome products for skincare and makeup but I'm having trouble finding the right foundation. I've tried 3 different ones. The liquid and tint moisturizer did not work. They accentuated every wrinkle. Please help! I have rosey cheeks but very good skin with a little dryness. Puffy eyes and bags.

Re: Newbie

Fellow 43 y/o here. It's wild how I went from all the makeup looked just like I wanted to one day I'm 250 years old.  While most of time I'm opting to go for little to no foundation, there are times it's really necessary.   Couple things things I found helpful, maybe they'll help you too...

♡ Skincare!   Like you, I have really good skin.   However, by simply upping my skincare game, I changed not only how the product applied to me but also how much product was needed in the first place.

♡ Using the right primers for the type of foundation and understanding how they look on 43 y/o skin.    The primers and foundations that worked on me at 30 just don't look the same.   Sure, I can choose to use less product but it sort of defeats the purpose of what I was trying to achieve.  Some of the blurring foundations have a silicon base that doesn't play well with water type foundations anyway.  Talk with someone at Sephora who us really knowledgeable on how to make a primer/foundations match made in heaven.

♡ Carry your concealer instead.  Less is more.  I of course prepped and primed my face then chose the concealer in place of full foundation.   Not only does this solve the cakey look and prominence of my burgeoning fine lines, it also is easier on my pocketbook.   Depending on your foundation choices, the one time purchase can creep up in cost.

♡ If all else fails, just know you're gorgeous and run with it.

Re: Newbie

@Cring451  your skin looks beautifully smooth.  generally if you’re seeing cakiness with a. Tinted moisturizer and accentuated texture there’s a likelihood too much product was applied.
you can reduce the amount of foundation or skin tint needed by colour correcting over redness with a green moisturizer Dr. Jart+ Cicapair ™ Tiger Grass Camo Drops Color Corrector SPF 35 1 oz / 30 mL  and then bouncing a small amount of skin tint or foundation (try a dime sized to begin with) over the colour corrector and the rest of your face.  Less product is more in the more mobile areas of your face.

set with a very sheer layer of light diffusing powder like hourglass ambient lighting powder Hourglass Ambient® Lighting Finishing Powder It’s great for diffusing light and shadow caused by wrinkles thus making them look less severe.
also, going a shade slightly darker than your skintone will help minimize the appearance of wrinkles (the shadows are what you see when you detect wrinkles so getting closer to the shade of the shadow the wrinkle creates will minimize its appearance.

@Cring451  You look amazing!! I am also in my 40s and I know exactly how you feel about foundation setting into my lines. I prefer a tinted moisturizer. Which ones have you tried? I really enjoy Summer Fridays Sheer Skin Tint with Hyaluronic Acid + Squalane  and Tower 28 Beauty SunnyDays SPF 30 Tinted Sunscreen Foundation  I have not tried it yet but I have heard that #Saie Glowy Super Skin Lightweight Hydrobounce™ Serum Foundation 17 is good for people with fine lines!

@ather

Thank you so much! I have tried Sephora liquid foundation, beautyblender tinted moisturizer and bareminerals tinted moisturizer. The bareminerals was a little bit better. I just started the fresh soy wash, sephora squalene firming moisturizer and peptide firming eye cream. Could my concealer be an issue and I will definitely try your suggestions? Thank you 😊

Re: Newbie

@Cring451  It could be the concealer. Which one are you using?
