Best Skincare for Hormonal Acne

Hey! I am really struggling with my acne right now. My medication isn't doing its job, and my hormonal acne is all over the place. Do you all have any recommendations for tough hormonal acne (including cystic acne)?

Thank you!! :))

@GracieFirgau Just reading ur post and thinking i should tell my experience too so i have the same issue and what works for me is the less the best so cut out everything just stay consistent with 4  things for like 2 or 3 weeks double cleansing gentle cleanser gel moisturizer that are really light and mineral sunscreen after that time add skin barrier serum to ur routine and then azelaic acid and then most important retinol give each product atleast a week and be caution with retinol start with just 2 days a week and pea size for whole face

The INKEY List Oat Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm 5 oz/ 150 mL

Cerave hydrating cleanser

The INKEY List Omega Water Cream Moisturizer 1.7 oz / 50 mL

The INKEY List SuperSolutions 10% Azelaic Serum 1 oz / 30 mL

The INKEY List Retinol Fine Lines and Wrinkles Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL

The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum 1 oz / 30 ml

and lastly la roche posay tinted sunscreen

that’s everything that am using that really works for me

and i didn’t take any supplements

spearmint tea before bed

i hope that will help.

Re: Best Skincare for Hormonal Acne

@GracieFirgau first, let me say, I share your pain as I had horrible cystic acne through my mid-20's. To be honest, nothing but two rounds of Accutane truly resolved my own. But, as someone who still struggles with dry, sensitive skin that will break out around my chin especially if it becomes irritated there are some products I think help. The first if you're not already getting the prescription form is Paula's Choice 10% Azelaic Acid Booster for Redness Relief 1 oz/ 30 mL  . Really I think Azelaic Acid and Lactic Acid are two safer alternatives than more aggressive exfoliants in our case and help much more with redness. The second consideration really depends on how dry vs combo or oily you are but I find, again, the aim is always to reduce any chance of inflammation or irritation, so avoiding products with fragrance and sticking to sensitive skin products helps me a lot (also a fan of things like Paula's Choice Sensitive line though it is not available here). If you're experiencing redness, things like LANEIGE Cica Sleeping Mask for Moisture Barrier Support  are great. Addressing hyperpigmentation from scarring can also help a lot. Not to be redundant but I really am a big fan of the Paula's Choice Discoloration Repair Serum. I've also seen a lot of improvement with some of the products in Sunday Riley's line like her Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One AHA Lactic Acid Treatment  (again using lactic acid) or her Sunday Riley C.E.O. 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum  . If you are dry or feel tight and sensitive, Avene Cicalfate+ cream is also a miracle if slathered on before bed time.

I hope any of those help 🙂
