Hello there, ladies and gents!
Keeping in line with all the fun and interactive threads asking about your most recent halls, items you have your eyes on, what you're currently wearing, what's your hair routine, and more, I've decide to branch out and ask:
"What's on your plate?"
The beauty world doesn't just stop at skin care and cosmetics, it also goes hand in hand with your overall health and well-being, so with that, I'm curious to see what we're all chowing down and snacking on be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or inbetween!
For those with apps that help count calories or to those who just want to keep a log, here's a place to share, possibly find and share some recipes, and even tips on maintaining a balanced diet.
Don't just share food items, but even drinks! I'm a huge fan of tea and at least have a cup of green tea a day (anti-oxidants) and drink plenty of water.
For lunch today, I had:
-Brown rice
-Steamed egg
-Steamed red snapper with green onion, sesame oil, and black pepper
-Gai lan (it's a type of Chinese vegetable/greens)
Now, tell me, Beauty Talk world, what do you have? 😄
This was tonights dinner. I found a list of "America's best mac n cheese" number one had a recipe so I had to try it. This mac n cheese is made with pepper jack cheese and some chili powder to give it a little bit of heat. I like to use cavatappi noodles because I feel like the cheese sticks to that shape really well.
Recipe:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups whole milk
¾ cup white cheddar cheese, freshly grated
¾ cup gruyere cheese, freshly grated
¼ cup pepper jack cheese, freshly grated
½ teaspoon coarse salt
¼ to ½ teaspoon chili powder
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
~6 ounces of cavatappi pasta
To prepare sauce, melt butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat and whisk in the flour. Continue whisking and cook for 2 minutes. Slowly add milk, whisking constantly. Cook until sauce thickens, about 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Add cheeses, salt, chili powder and garlic powder. Stir until cheese is melted and all ingredients are incorporated, about 3 minutes. Set aside.
Preheat oven to 350F. Butter or oil a baking dish. Cook pasta 2 minutes less than package directions. (It will finish cooking in the oven.) Rinse pasta in cold water and drain well.
Combine pasta and sauce in a medium bowl; mix carefully but thoroughly. Scrape the pasta into the prepared baking dish.
Bake, uncovered, 20 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
That looks seriously delicious!
I was just about to ask for a recipe and then I scrolled down, thank you!!!
OMG, could you imagine if this was baked too with some bread crumbs on top????? *drooooool*
Think Cheese Crackers and smoked paprika on top.
Breadcrumbs on a bacon leek pizza are amazing though.
Droool droooool drooooooollllllll
Did I mention DROOL?!?!?!!
Blackkitty and gwenhwyfar if you do make it I would love to see photos of your dishes!
Will do. My hunny loves Mac n Cheese 🙂
Thx u so much for the recipe. My honey would be thrill if I make this one night 😉
Yum, that sounds and looks really good! Would you mind sharing the recipe? 🙂
I will edit my post to add the recipe in a spoiler
Thank you! This is going on my list of dinners to make in the next couple weeks.
This was last nights dinner. I got the recipe from a friend who called it "crunch salad" it consists of shredded cabbage, toasted raman noodles and almond slices, with a olive oil red wine vinaigrette dressing.
This looks great, knuevekm! It actually reminds me of a salad my mom used to make when I was growing up! Do you have a recipe by any chance?
Okay which one of you ladies took a bite out of my very last tiramisu chocolate truffle? hehe just kidding it was me! 😉
Are you absolutely sure that it was you?
No recipe for this one! LOL! Sorry. I just had to share one of my fave dishes ( we had this tonight ) - her majesty SARMA! It is a real pain in the behind to prepare this, so when I do make it, I do so in large amount, because it can be frozen. Which is awesome! 🙂 It is stuffed fermented cabbage ( you need whole fermented heads of cabbage for this dish ), with ground meat "filling", cooked or baked in some thin sauce, "seasoned" with some smoked+dried meats. ( There's just something about this kraut+dried/smoked meats combo... It's so darn delicious! )
Those look a lot like halupkies except that halupkies have a tomato-based sauce on them and the cabbage isn't fermented. So similar, yet different. 😄
Mmmm lyravega, this is a staple in our Romanian household. We eat it with sour cream and polenta YUM!!!!
Oh boy, my tummy is rumbling 🙂
This looks good. But it seems you would need a large crock for fermenting whole cabbage head! Do you have one of those large crocks?
