What Would You Do with $1,000,000?

LexBT, BrendaBT and me playing around in Sephora Collection's SEPHORiA experienceLexBT, BrendaBT and me playing around in Sephora Collection's SEPHORiA experience

In case you haven't heard the news, Beauty Insider's newest sweepstakes just launched today and the prize is HUGE! One lucky Beauty Insider will actually win $1,000,000. As a Sephora employee, I cannot enter to win but I know that many of you will probably be entering or are thinking about it. If you're interested in entering the sweeps, you can enter here: https://www.beautyinsidersweeps.com

This sweeps is the first of it's kind and has my mind spinning so I want to hear from you all... If you were to win $1,000,000 what would you do with the prize money?

Re: What Would You Do with $1,000,000?

@treestar86  and anyone else who doesn’t wanna use points to enter: here are screenshots from Sephora’s own T&C about this contest. (Yellow highlighting added by me for emphasis.) EDIT: Note that you only get one entry per envelope. That means if you want to enter the allowed 100 times, you must mail Sephora 100 separate entries. That’ll cost you $55 USD in first class US mail postage. 😮 You can’t send multiple entries in the same envelope.

Re: What Would You Do with $1,000,000?

@WinglessOne “Hello World Inc” is a rewards platform host etc. If Canada and USA are sending entries to two different locations, how are they possibly going to combine them? Seems a bit fishy.

Re: What Would You Do with $1,000,000?

@GG84  Right? Apparently HelloWorld plans to combine all US and Canadian entries in Southfield, MI. Copy/paste from contest rules:

Spoiler
5. Grand Prize Drawing: Administrator is an independent judging organization whose decisions as to the administration and operation of the Sweepstakes and the selection of the potential winner are final and binding in all matters related to the Sweepstakes. Administrator will randomly select the potential winner from all eligible entries received during the Promotion Period in Southfield, MI, on or around 12:00 pm PT on August 29, 2019. The potential winners will be notified by email or phone.

I know HelloWorld is a promotions platform company with a location in Southfield. (They also have a Chicago location, and I think one in LA, and a couple other cities.) I don’t know if they’re bringing all the mail-in entries to Southfield, or if they’ll digitize them all and pool them with all the digital points-purchased entries—or maybe they’ll create physical versions of all the digital points entries to pool with the mail-in entries. I haven’t picked through the contest rules to see if they specify that, but I bet they don’t. 😄 They’ve worked with many companies on contests like this, so I’m sure they have a standard internal process for it. Still, it seems kinda iffy from an outsider consumer’s perspective.

I’ll take this opportunity to remind folks to ALWAYS read contest/sweepstakes/giveaway rules (or T&C) before entering. You need to know what things/actions/entries will disqualify you. But you also need to see if you’re giving up anything by entering or winning, such as the ability to be anonymous if you win (vs. the promo and/or sponsor company gaining the right to publicize your name, likeness, etc. in any promotional materials). Legalese is tedious, I know—I used to work closely with lawyers and yes, they really do think the way they write T&C 😄 (no offense to any lawyers or paralegals among us)—but make an effort to at least skim that stuff.

Re: What Would You Do with $1,000,000?

that seems like too much work, especially since they say they won't acknowledge any entries (which they could easily do if they were typing/scanning all of them).  I'm sure they'll probably just put em in a big bowl and pick one, like the lottery. haha

Re: What Would You Do with $1,000,000?

@GG84

I'd imagine that's mostly so postage stays local instead of residents of one country having to send international mail. Either Hello World physically trucks one load of entries across the border once the sweepstakes is closed, or else they are simply entering all entries into one electronic database.

Re: What Would You Do with $1,000,000?

@RGbrown That’s my point. If enough people are reading the entry rules and don’t want to use their points - I would expect a whole lot of mail entries. That’s a massive amount of physical mail lol

Anyway I’m not saying that I don’t think this is necessarily legit and there’s no way we’d know, but also 🧐

Re: What Would You Do with $1,000,000?

@GG84

Eh, there's really no way to know if any sweeps is legit (unless you happen to win it yourself 😋). Hello World is a huge sweeps administrator for lots of companies though...I'd hope that means they're generally on the up and up.

Re: What Would You Do with $1,000,000?

@treestar86 From terms, 100 regardless of entry method

RE: What Would You Do with $1,000,000?
