Fenty Beauty Shade Comparison

I haven't been able to run to the store to swatch yet. In MAC prolongwear foundation I'm NC50, Cognac in MUFE and Clinique #27 which I believe is ginger in their matte foundation. I'm wondering if 420 would be my shade. Could someone give their thoughts and wear of the Fenty Beauty foundation? Pictured below no makeup

@CaykePhayce try checking out the Findation website; it's very helpful for color matching.

Re: Fenty Beauty Shade Comparison

Thanks so much! I love this site!

Re: Fenty Beauty Shade Comparison

Cognac in MUFE is color iQ 1R13, I couldn't find Clinique #27 in the color iQ system but if it was ginger in the matte line then that's 1R11and MAC NC50 is color iQ 3R12. The best shades if we are going off of color iQ are FB shade 380 which is 3R11, FB 400 which is 1R12, FB 410 which is 2R12, FB 430 which is 2R13, or FB 440 which is 3R13. FB shade 420 could work but its more yellow undertone than red and it's 1Y13. Of course color iQ isn't exact as you can see with your own shade range in your foundations.

For reference, my color iQ is 3Y05 and shade 190 was the best for me and thats 1Y05. From other lines, I wear a Urban decay Naked in shade 3 which is 5Y06 and Nars pure radiant tinted moisturizer in Groenland which is 2Y06. Neither of those last two shades are perfect though but they blend out well and don't look like a bad match. So there's quite some variation on what works.

Re: Fenty Beauty Shade Comparison

I’m sooo sorry for the late response; I did not receive any notification. Thank you for your response!! I was unfamiliar with color IQs 😨 I have to deep dive into this lol

RE: Fenty Beauty Shade Comparison

I use 420 in Fenty Beauty. I'm cognac in MUFE, golden in Clinique, sandalwood in Estée Lauder, macao in Nars and 340 in Maybelline Fit Me. Hope this helps! Forgot to add I'm also NC50 in MAC and N90 in Coverfx

Hi @CatkePhayce! You can see tons of swatches and read lots of reviews on the Phenty specific thread: https://community.sephora.com/t5/Brand-Loyal/THE-FENTY-BEAUTY-THREAD/m-p/2877198#M51968 People of various skin tones have tried and bought products from the line, I'm sure if you post there it will be seen by more people who can help with your specific question. HTH!

Re: RE: Fenty Beauty Shade Comparison

Brittany,

It depends if you want to match your chest or your face. Your face to me looks like Fenty 430, and your chest looks like Fenty 400. Both have some red undertones but 430 is deeper and more red. 400 has warm and red undertones. For reference, I am a NC50 in the winter, NC55 in the summer. In Lancôme Teint Idole 24 hour foundation I am 510 C in the summer and 470 C and/or 500 W in the winter. (470 C is the very lightest I can go in the Lancôme foundation.) In Clinique 3 in 1 foundation I am 26 amber, and in Estee Lauder Double Wear I am Rich Cocoa in the summer and 6W1 in the winter (forgot the name). Maybelline Fit Me I mix the 355 with a very small amount of the 360 mocha. Now in the Fenty I have tried 400, 410, 420, and 430. AT FIRST I would not even try 400. I thought it would be way too light, but when I tried it, it worked. Because it is summer and I am redder it is ever so very slightly yellow. I can barely tell it and can wear it alone and get compliments, only when I pull up my chin and look real close I can see a little difference; however, I chose to mix with the 420 which is a neutral. On me, "some" neutrals throw a slight grey cast if looking far away. When I ask people they do not see it, but it is not quite as warm as I like it to be that is why I mix 400 with 420 and for me THIS is a perfect match!!!.  430 (which looked from the bottle would work for me), is a little red and slightly deeper than my face. Can I wear it? Yes!! And did for a few days.....But when it oxidizes, it looked TOO dark/red for my neck and chest area. 410 on the other hand is a deep (like me) but cool (not like me) tone. Think of those sisters with no obvious red or yellow in their skin (beautiful brown but a cool brown) who mainly look good in silver jewelry. When I put 410 on my chest and the side of my face it looks dull, lifeless and "off." I need at least some slight red AND some warmth/yellow undertone. With that said the 420 is a deep neutral with the perfect intensity for my skin color. (You and I look similar); however, I mix with the 400 to get some warmth and slight red. The color is seamless. ON TO HOW THE FOUNDATION WEARS - I do use a primer and a setting spray. I personally do not use powder to SET this one. It is mattifying for most of the day!!!  I will however touch up my T zone if needed with a light powder after about 4 to 5 hours usually with the Sasha Buttercup Powder in Medium and a poofy powder brush with VERY little powder on it. (I DO remove any excess oils first, but with this foundation there is not much oil.) I do like the foundation a lot because it looks like skin. You MUST mooooove fast when applying. I start with a flat top and go over it with a beauty blender sponge for an airbrushed finish.  Plan it carefully. It does oxidize darker i.e. YES dries to the same shade but deeper like paint but later does oxidize. It goes almost a shade darker, so keep that in mind. I have planned for this when selecting the shades, and it works perfectly now.  I have combination skin and this foundation performs very nice!! (((It is not and cannot be full coverage.))) This foundation is light to medium at best, which works excellent for me! Make sure that you exfoliate (if you need to), and moisturize (mandatory) your face! Not for dry skin. Looks better with primer. VERY LIGHT WEIGHT!!!! You forget you put it on....HA! Really like that! ....and no transfer that I have noticed, which is rare. Will NOT cover dark dark spots or textured skin i.e. raised pimples etc. very well. You will need Kat Von D, Marc Jacobs, Estee Lauder Double Wear or Becca Ultimate Coverage Foundation for that.  Hope this helps!
