My Sephora Makeup Service Experience

I went to my local Sephora yesterday for a makeover. I still can’t get over how amazing the experience was and I wanted to share it with you all. If you’ve been thinking about it but are on the fence, I highly recommend giving it a go!

I was a few months into taking makeup seriously and wanted to get some feedback on how I was doing. I dressed up, did my makeup routine, and went into my local store fully female to ask for some help from one of their makeup artists. The one I spoke with told me what I was doing well, how I could improve next time, and tips to make my routine easier. She asked me questions that helped narrow down my concerns and gave me suggestions on how to address them. She reassured me that there is no wrong way to do makeup; the only thing that’s right is what I like and what works for me. She also suggested looking into the bold beauty online tutorials and trying their makeup services. She said I could use the time with the makeup artist as an individualized learning experience.

I finally had the time to go yesterday, so I booked it online and requested the same person as my makeup artist. I arrived fully dressed and walked into the store. It was a little uncomfortable walking through the mall dressed but without makeup on, but fortunately we are still in the middle of the pandemic and wearing a face mask hides half my face. The staff greeted me in a friendly and professional manner. They asked if I would be comfortable at the table in the middle of the store but I didn’t want to be a spectacle front and centre, so I asked if I could be seated elsewhere and they brought me to the corner of the store.

The makeup artist arrived and asked me a few questions to identify what kind of look I was going for. She asked me if I wanted to try specific products or use specific colours. I was feeling adventurous, so I told her what my usual routine was like, but that I was also open to her suggestions. She brought back a few choices and we went through them together before she went to work. As she completed each element on my face, she paused and showed me what she did, how she did it, and what I could do at home to recreate the look with my skill level. Once she was done, she asked if I had questions or concerns about recreating the look on my own and offered tips and suggestions for me to try.

I walked out of the store looking and feeling fabulous, and confident that I could create something similar on my own. But most importantly, she created a safe space for me to explore this side of myself. She wasn’t judgemental and didn’t brush me off to the side (I’ve also had this experience at Sephora); she took me seriously and genuinely wanted me to look and feel happy. I would have never dared to try this if it weren’t what she did. And I can’t wait to try this out on my own.

Re: My Sephora Makeup Service Experience

@JoSometimes, what an amazing experience! I'm so pleased you went into the store for one of the makeup services and that they created a safe space for you! 💗 Love that you and your makeup artist had an opportunity to talk about the application of the products, techniques and tips and tricks that you can try at home!  You look fabulous - naturally radiant and that lipstick looks beautiful on you!
