How to hide stubble?

Hi everyone,

New Trans feminine here, barely out and still trying. Um, so I was wondering if anyone had any tips to hide facial hair? I heard using a heavy concealer will work but then looks odd on one's face so then it still draws attention. I...I was hoping to go out for Halloween as a girl so to get used to it and thought this be a good chance to practice and try to see if I can look more like the me I want to be. I heard Sephora is pretty good for that as they have offered classes for...trans and gender people (through none near me seem to be offering or I am looking in the wrong spot to find out). Any tips?

Re: How to hide stubble?

I’m in the same boat as you. I find a good shaving routine helps with getting a nice, close shave and minimizing stubble. There are plenty of tutorials online on achieving a close shave. Try different techniques and even different types of blades and see what works best for you.

My facial is thick and black, so there’s still shadow, even if I manage to get a really smooth shave. To combat this, I trace the shadow with a reddish colour corrector and blend it out. There are specific products for this, but a basic red-orange lipstick can work in a pinch. After I’ve applied and blended the colour corrector, I’ll go over it with setting powder, then cover up the redness with concealer before foundation and the rest of my makeup routine.

If your local Sephora doesn’t offer classes, try booking one of their makeup services. You can use the time as an individualized lesson. I actually did this yesterday. I booked their full face service and the makeup artist took the time to ask me what kind of look I wanted, made suggestions on what products to use, showed me what techniques she was using, and gave me a list of all the products (and the shades/colours) so I could buy them in the future. I had an absolute blast with her, walked out looking and feeing amazing, and learned so much in that time. I’d highly recommend it!

OMG thank you! I love this advice! I am going to see if there is that option and such. I also appreciate the suggestion on product. My...hair is also dark so I appreciate the relevant insight. Thank you!

Re: How to hide stubble?

Hi @JennyTGirl ,

Thank you for your inquiry! When concealing facial hair (assuming it's close-shaved), apply a color-corrector first, in which orange tone cancels out bluish tone of a "five o'clock shadow". If you're fair to medium skin toned, peach or salmon color corrector will be best while orange is best for tan to deep skin tones. NARS Radiant Creamy Liquid Color Corrector Deep is a great option for color correctors.

After, follow up with a full coverage concealer like the SEPHORA COLLECTION Best Skin Ever Full Coverage Multi-Use Hydrating Concealer 33.5Y  and then your foundation. You'll find that lightly layering these products will successfully hide shadows from facial hair.

I hope this helps, please let us know of follow up questions!

Best,

Shawn
