is La Mer cream worth the $

so my SO has asked what I want for Valentine's Day and I'm due for a new face cream. I've heard so much about how amazing La Mer is and I'm curious af, but is it really that good or would I be better going with another luxury brand (I'm thinking tatcha or Dior)

Re: is La Mer cream worth the $

It's a great cream if your skin is dry and you can handle a heavier texture.  I love using it in the winter.  The rest of the year, it's not a good fit for my skin.  However, there are exceptional creams at much more reasonable price points too.  My skin loves the J.One Hana cream, and I rely on something like Tatcha Water Cream in the summer.

Re: is La Mer cream worth the $

I think the first question is what are your skincare needs? And then you can decide if La Mer (or any other luxury skincare product) is the right one to meet those needs. La Mer is really good but if your skin doesn’t need it, you may not really see any point to it.

If you just want to feel fancy using a face cream, then yah La Mer or La Prairie or Omoroviza are all nice options. At slightly lower luxury price point (not in terms of niceness or packaging, just less outlay), I think Tatcha is great.

Personally not not a fan of Dior skin care. I don’t think that’s something they excel at (makeup yes) but I know it’s popular.

@MotherofSora  I'd recommend the Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream from Tatcha - lovely cream, does the trick, and a cheaper option than La Mer.

Re: is La Mer cream worth the $

@MotherofSora  I received a sample of Creme de La Mer and I have to say that I really did find that it plumped up the skin around my eyes.  Ever since, I've been focused on getting that look again.  I decided not to buy it b/c of the inclusion of eucalyptus, though.  And the high price tag didn't help.  I rec getting a sample before making the investment 🙂

Re: is La Mer cream worth the $

Hi @MotherofSora, I rotate between LA MER - Crème de la Mer

and DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro™ Whipped Cream.

Despite what people say, Nivea is not a dupe for La Mer. La Mer is truly a luxury cream. You feel a difference in your skin after first application.

Drunk Elephant is another Luxury cream in my opinion. It provides a deeper moisture treatment which is why I rotate between the two.
