What’s everyone’s favorite winter moisturizers?
I like winter moisturizers that deeply hydrate yet absorb quickly so skin stays soft without feeling heavy. If you use ZIIP customer service, their devices combine microcurrent and nanocurrent to boost muscle tone and stimulate cell repair, giving smoother, firmer skin. Using their conductive gel and then a rich moisturizer helps skin stay glowy and healthy even in cold weather.
@lexi982 My mostly-dry combo skin loves CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion year-round. In cold weather, I usually top it with an extra moisturizer of some sort (or use a different moisturizer altogether), depending on weather conditions here in Chicago. The second moisturizer’s often one of these:
Sometimes I’ll apply a facial oil under my moisturizer. My faves for that are The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil for Skin Elascicity 1 oz/ 30 mL and Byoma Hydrating Recovery Oil. Neither of these contain essential perfuming oils (my facial skin hates that stuff) and they work well for me.
I used to (eh, still kinda do) like Drunk Elephant Lala Retro™ Nourishing Whipped Refillable Moisturizer in winter. I haven’t used it in years but assume it’s still a good performer, though pricier than necessary.
Do you have a favorite winter moisturizer?
@WinglessOne All the yes to a petroleum layer when the wind chill is up and I'm outside! I remember when "slugging" had it's rise to fame and all I could think was don't we all do that in winter anyway? Lol
I also used to carry around the Drunk Elephant Lippee balm in the pocket of my parka to re-apply that to my face when I needed a top up on the go! Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do when you live in the cold!
@missjeanie Haha, I thought the same thing about slugging. 😂 I couldn’t believe people were treating it like a hot new trend, but hey, at least that trend helped some people’s skin.
You just reminded me of Aquaphor’s Healing Balm Stick. I usually keep one in my tote bag for various uses, including “it’s suddenly gone from gentle snowfall to snowing sideways and I gotta walk a few blocks” emergencies. Vaseline also makes a chunky solid tube. Heck, a tube of unscented Chapstick can work in a pinch. Always good to have something easy to reapply handy!
@WinglessOne Oh and now you've reminded me that I picked up one of the Vaseline sticks! I'll have to add that to my purse tonight!
@lexi982 I love the Dr. Jart Ceramidin cream. It's one that is thicker and sinks into my skin well but is also great a barrier repair if I'm wind burnt or have a bit of frostbite too. I also love the sheet masks from this line.
My fave was the previous version of belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb with Peptide and Ceramide @lexi982 , but I'm curious to try AESTURA ATOBARRIER365 Lightweight Face Lotion Moisturizer with Ceramides & Niacinamide for Skin Mois...
@PrettyPaint and @itsfi can better speak on this one
@danielledanielle @PrettyPaint - I tried a deluxe sample of the AESTURA ATOBARRIER365 Lightweight Face Lotion Moisturizer a couple of months ago. It was not particularly moisturizing. (I have combo/oily skin.) I normally use Tatcha The Water Cream and FAB Ultra Repair Cream. I would like to try AESTURA ATOBARRIER365 Cream to see if it's more moisturizing.
@Titian06 Hmmm....sounds like the lightweight version might be good to try during the summer months.
@Titian06, the consistency of #ATOBARRIER365 Cream Moisturizer with Ceramides & Niacinamide for Skin Moisture Barrier Repair should be more moisturizing than the lotion. @danielledanielle @PrettyPaint
@itsfi Yes, I think the cream moisturizer version would be a lot more moisturizing!
@lexi982, my skin is typically normal-to-dry most of the year, combo in the summer months when my lower T-zone gets oilier. My current go to moisturizers are:
I use the Rhode in the evenings and the Dr. Jart as my primary daytime moisturizer. When it's really cold out, I will use the Rhode in the morning as well and forsee switching to that day and night as we move into the thick of winter.
I've tested or used all three of the Aestura face moisturizers and find them to perform nicely, with the Hydro Soothing Gel-Cream Moisturizer being best suited for my skin in the summer months and the Cream Moisturizer better in the cooler seasons. I will repurchase the Soothing Gel-Cream in the summertime. I have a full size of the Cream Moisturizer and can see myself rotating between that and the Dr. Jart Ceramidin Moisturizer. As @PrettyPaint mentioned, all three are currently on sale. If you have a Sephora store near you that carries the line, it might be helpful for you to test out the formula, consistency.
Other moisturizers that I've used in the past that I've also had great results from include:
I mentioned occasionally layering a face oil in the past with a few of these moisturizers. For what it's worth, I used The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil.
If you have specific questions about any of these products, please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks so much for the tag @danielledanielle! Tagging @ather and @Shosh85 as they may have some other helpful recommendations to provide.
@lexi982 I tend to run super dry most of the year. I agree with @itsfi i absolutely love Rhode Barrier Butter. It is the perfect amount of moisturizer without leaving my skin feeling greasy or a residue when I wake up. I like to layer it with the Rhode glazing milk one of my favs and the glazing fluid. In the past I have used Drunk Elephant Lala Retro which is a great thick moisturizer. Keep us posted!!!
@lexi982 @danielledanielle I've been using the cream moisturizer: AESTURA ATOBARRIER365 Cream Moisturizer with Ceramides & Niacinamide for Skin Moisture Barrier Repai...
It works great for my dry, sensitive skin. I haven't tried the lightweight version, yet, but I'm tempted to give it a try with the sale.
