Why does Sunday Riley Good Genes burn the crap out of my face???

I recently purchased Sunday Riley Good Genes All In One for about 100 and something dollars. I was so excited and my expectations were extremely high but it burn the crap out of my face. It burns so bad to the point where it’s very uncomfortable and makes me itch what do I do? Has anybody else experienced this...

Re: Why does Sunday Riley Good Genes burn the crap out of my face???

i have been using this product with the Luna oil for about a week and only the past couple days i have been getting a lot of redness and burning on my face immediately after treatment. it seems to go away eventually but i'm a bit concerned that the burning is damaging! does anyone have any insights? i have never used AHA before and i'm not using any other retinoids

Do you use strong retinoids or are on medications that can sensitize your skin? What other products are you using in combination with that? If you don't normally have sensitive skin it might be a bad product combo with something else you're using.

Hi @Jennag323!

I also had a negative reaction but not as bad.  I started using it every other day and my skin started getting really rough texture.  I stopped using it and haven't used it all over my face any more.  I have however, started using it to spot treat this really dark spot I have on my cheekbone that hasn't budged at all after using 10% glycolic acid.  I use it every other day only on the spot and I leave it overnight.  And to my surprise, I started noticing that the skin on the dark sport has started to peel and the spot is becoming ever so slightly lighter.  I'm super excited as this spot has been bothering me for several years now and it only seems to get darker and larger, so fingers crossed that the Good Genes will be my savior and will at some point completely eliminate it.

As @fieldsofclover recommended, try it as a mask or if you have dark sports you want to remove, I recommend using it as a spot treatment but instead of leaving over night, leave it on for a limited amount of time.

I hope you find this is helpful!

it's been around 2 weeks and I started noticing that the skin in the dark spot is starting to peel (kind of like when you have a sunburn - it doesn't hurt).  I didn't take a picture when I started this process but I just took a picture the other night so I'm going to keep track of my progress and once I have enough that is very noticeable, I will then post it.

hi, any updates? I've also started using the power couple (lactic + luna oil) and noticed my forehead and cheeks where i use them have very rough texture. forehead especially feels really rough like sandpaper and i still have blackheads on my forehead despite this. I've bought them in the hopes of fading a dark spot too. can you give us an update on your dark spot treatment?

Re: Why does Sunday Riley Good Genes burn the crap out of my face???

@Jennag323 Good Genes is a pretty strong lactic acid (AHA) product... many people have to work up to using it at full strength overnight, especially if your existing skincare regimen hasn't incorporated regular AHA/BHA use before this. Some people only ever use Good Genes or similar treatments as a wash-off mask, as they can gain the benefits in an hour or so of treatment but react poorly if it's left on longer.

It's important to give your skin a chance to acclimate. I would suggest using a gentle cleanser and moisturizer free of acids/retinoids for several days until it is calm again, then starting out by using GG as a mask treatment several times to see how you are adjusting to it.
