What is a good sunscreen for oily skin?

I always seem to break out after wearing sunscreen for the day, but if I don’t wear it I get really burnt.

Re: What is a good sunscreen for oily skin?

Is your breaking out acne breakouts or an ingredient reaction? I breakout when I use a sunscreen with avobenzone in it and it's a reaction to the chemical rather than acne.  My skin is sensitve to botanicals and essential oils as well.

I use Algenist Sublime Defense Ultra Lightweight SPF 50.  While it isn't heavy, it still feels a bit tacky but it's the "lightest" I've found, so I use light dusting of setting powder prior to my foundation.  I haven't found a drugstore option that works for me.

For reapplication (because you must reapply it every few hours, more frequently if you are perspiring, in water or on reflective surfaces such as beach, concrete), I use ColorScience SPF 50 powder sunscreen, which is physical sunscreen (titanium dioxide, zinc oxide) so perfect for my oily skin. I am fair skinned, burn easily (like within 15-30 minutes outside) and using the combination, I haven't had a breakout or a sunburn. Tarte and PTR are now making powder sunscreens, also, I haven't tried them.

Mists are another option for reapplication on top of makeup if you can tolerate the ingredients.

elta md is amazing! it comes in tinted and non-tinted, also make sure to reapply. you can get it from your dermatologist (not a prescription)

@niccoleu, both Algenist and Volition have spf 50 products that are a very thin, liquid consistency. Much lighter and more breathable than standard sunscreen, and easily wearable under makeup too.

At the moment I am using the Pharmacy spf 30! With the honey moisturizer! It’s bomb! I highly recommend it. My skin background is oily and acne prone. Right now my acne has been on the down low because I have been taking prescription medication 🙂

Shiseido has great sunscreen for the face.

I'm guessing you're looking for products for the face? I have fair/light combo-oily (straight-up oily in summer) skin. I'm also sensitive to a lot of SPF ingredients (read - breakouts). I've personally had the best luck with Philosophy's Take a Deep Breath with SPF 30, Tarte's BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hr with SPF 30, and Shiseido's Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector with SPF 42. I actually used the Shiseido last weekend, and did not break out.

For body coverage, I like Coppertone Sport and Neutrogena Ultra Sheer. I've had good experiences with both.

If your looking for your face Supergoop is amazing and is also a setting spray and has 50 spf. My boyfriend and I both used it for a hot day at the zoo, and are face were completely regular and it felt so refreshing too. I was surprised how amazingly it worked considering it felt so light.
