WHAT ORDER FOR FACIAL SKIN CARE?

I need to know what the best step process is for skin care routines and products. specifically Masks. For example I have a sample set of Dr. Brant facial peels and then I have oxygen masks. I don't know which to use first for best results. Typically I've heard this for daily skin care: 1. makeup removal 2. Oil cleanse 3. Face Soap or Wash 4. Toner 5. Syrums (clearest first then the more colored) 6. moisturizer. But is that right? How do peels and masks fit in?

Re: WHAT ORDER FOR FACIAL SKIN CARE?

Just looking over the steps you listed in general, oil cleanse and makeup removal are really the same thing unless you're separating out makeup removal as just eye makeup. But the right oil cleanser can really help with that well. The color of the serums really doesn't have anything to do with where it comes in your routine. If it's an exfoliating serum, it should come after cleansing, before anything else, but if it's not then the general rule is thinnest to thickest consistency.

Facial peels will generally come in between cleansing and toner, but that can depend a bit on what exact type it is.

Rinse off masks, like the oxygen ones, should come immediately after cleansing before any treatments. Regular sheet masks come after serums, before moisturizer.

Also, if you're using any peels or exfoliating serums, you need to use a stand-alone spf in the mornings. Those types of products can make your skin very susceptible to sun damage.

Wow! So much needed info. I really appreciate it. I'm just starting Modeling and have been acting for a while now so I can't risk messing up my skin. So if I have a sheet Oxygen mask that comes after cleaning. Can I use this peel after the mask or is that going to be too harsh?

@Gboss Personally I wouldn't use both items in the same routine. Those oxygen type masks are meant to clean out your pores and as a consequence can be drying. So if you followed them with the peel pads, that might be irritating to your skin and very drying. Pore-clearing masks like the oxygen ones are meant to be used like 2x a week, so you can use the peels on two other evenings! 🙂

Oh wow! Thank you for that. I get really dry feeling skin often so I appreciate you warning me so I don't make it worse.

Do you have any other peel you'd recommend?

Re: WHAT ORDER FOR FACIAL SKIN CARE?

@Gboss Peels and masks fit is an additional step to the resk of your regular routine. You generally use them after cleansing, then continue with the rest of your routine unless the mask or peel is particularly intense. Also - if you are in fact following the routine you’ve listed that can get pretty drying. Are you using three separate products to remove your makeup, oil cleanse, and cleanse? To give you an example of my routine, I use L'Occitane Shea Cleansing Oil 6.7 oz/ 200 mL as my primary cleanser and will do a treatment after. If I do, I omit my toning/essence step (I use CAUDALIE - Vinoperfect Glycolic Brightening Essence), otherwise I continue with my serum and moisturizers. So, if this makes a little more sense, I guess I use treatments instead of an essence a few times a week. I suppose the general rule I follow for myself is if the treatment is a chemical exfoliation I won’t use the essence but if it’s something else (detoxing, physical exfoliation) I will. On the rare occasion I use a sheet mask or something, I will only cleanse then mask - no additional products after.

My daily routine is mascara melt off by two faced then tiny dabs of "Green Clean" Oil cleanser to remove any heavy make-up (I'l skip that if I have very small amounts of makeup on) then a Neutrogena make-up wipe to remove everything. Then typically I wash my face with a cleanser. I have many different samples of them so I just use whichever. Then If it's night I use a sheet mask. I enjoy the Pacifica De-Stress or the Hydrolic acid or rose masks from Walmart. Sometimes I'll use the Sugar Face Polish by Fresh then cover it with the Rose Moisture Mask by Fresh. after that's cleared off with just water I use Good Genes and Luna Retinol with a moisturizer right before bed. In the morning I use PTR under eye masks. I use the Sephora brand Miceller (the Pomegranate $4 one) to gently sweep anything off my skin. then I was using Caudalie Moisturizing Toner, but I found I like the Murad Vitamkn C toner better. Then I'll use Caudalie Vinoperfect and The truth serum. Then an eye cream (still toying around to find one I like). Then a light moisturizer. My sheet masks I use maybe 2-3 times a week. i've never used a peel. I got a 3 pack of these Heavy Peel treatments and I don't want to screw up my skin. The Oxygen masks are sheet masks and they are SO annoying but they do make my skin amazing soft and clean. So I try to use one of them or a pollution fight sheet masks at least once a week. What is your opinion on this? I grew up with an older brother and my mom who used Bar soap to wash and lubriderm lotion to moisturize. Yes, on her face. I have converted her to Clinique at least over the years but I don't have help with things like this. 😅

@Gboss Whew you use a lot of products! Do you find your skin behaves? Have you found a cleanser you like best? Going from sample to sample to sample can irritate your skin.

thing with my skin for care and it will be fine. It would get the occasional dry patch and look dull but my skin has always been great. (At least on my face area lol). But I wanted to try these new products.

Do you have a time frame you recommend for changing products? Like maybe wait a week? 2 weeks? a month? Zero makeup or skincare products.Zero makeup or skincare products.

Re: WHAT ORDER FOR FACIAL SKIN CARE?

@GbossUnidentified

A wash off mask would go after cleansing, before toning. A sheet mask would go after serum, before moisturizer. Peels come in many forms, so placement may vary...if it's a leave on item, you might do it with your serum (or instead of...if your serums have actives in them, then you might want to skip those on peel days to avoid overdoing the acids), or else after cleansing/before toning as a wash off mask.

I've actually never heard "lightest to darkest" before...the rule of thumb many subscribe to is thinnest to thickest.

Honestly I thought Peels meant like a HEAVY DUTY clinical peel off mask... 😅😅 I opened the samples and that is NOT what they are.

Re: Honestly I thought Peels meant like a HEAVY DUTY clinical...

@Gboss Some masks do physically peel off, like BOSCIA - Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask  , that one is applied like mud,  then after it dries it's peeled up to remove.

Dr Gross is a 2-step pad. You won't find professional grade otc, where it's one step. Professional grade comes in different  applications, some wash off afterwards, some stay on. Either case use spf, but use a peel at night.

Re: Honestly I thought Peels meant like a HEAVY DUTY clinical...

That's great to know. I have tried that peel off you mentioned. I don't do peel off masks often but I think they are fun. But I really thought a "peel" was like a super duper strong treatment in the form of a peel off mask. I didn't know the use peels in the PM that's great to know. Would you recommend alternating peel and Retinol? I tend to use these two at night. My skin is very pale and very dull. It feels tight and dry but Sephora staff did the moisture level test more than once, at different locations and different parts of my face and it was in the "normal" number and like not dry at all. So idk why it always feels dry.

Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One AHA Lactic Acid Treatment 1.7 oz / 50 ml  and Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Retinoid Night Oil 1.18 oz/ 35 mL

Honestly the only product that made my skin feel not dry is the DE lala retro cream.

Thank you! This helps. I received a pack of 3 Peels and I haven't really looked into them yet. But I want to try them. So I'll read if they come off or stay on. thanks again
