Vitamin C Purging or Not?

I know Sephora may not sell it, but I recently incorporated the Derma-E Vitamin C Serum into my daytime routine (and yes I wear SPF), I noticed that by the end of the day I broke out. A bunch of tiny and a few deep pimples appeared on my problem area, which is my cheeks. I thought it was purging but I also got a lip mask that has vitamin c and I put some on and noticed it burned a bit before i ended up taking it off. So, it is possible I’m allergic or just sensitive? Ugh I hate it lol

@breakoutkween That product piqued my interest, but I stayed away from it b/c of the fragrant oils.  I wonder if your skin was reacting to that?

honestly could be the reason! I have sensitive skin and haven’t used fragranced products in a long time. Thank you!

The Derma vitamin C serum is a derivative of vitamin C, @breakoutkween, sodium ascorbyl phosphate rather than L-ascorbic acid. Given that, I'm leaning towards it being more of a negative reaction than a purge. Especially given the deeper pimples. Many people do indeed experience irritation from vitamin C and it's derivatives. I would probably discontinue use.

Thank you so much! I woke up this morning and my skin is so much better than last night. I agree that it was most likely a bad reaction, so I will be taking it out of my routine. Just a bit bummed because I was looking forward to it working, but I guess you live and you learn!

Oh absolutely, @breakoutkween. Skincare is such a trial-and-error process. I hope you find another product to meet your needs!
