Too many acids?

Hey! I use the Caudalie Vinopure line (salicylic acid products) with their vinoperfect essence (glycolic acid). I dislike the vinopure moisturizer because it pills with my makeup! So, I’m interested in trying Tatcha’s water cream. The water cream has lactic acid in it, should I rethink my moisturizer choice?

Re: Too many acids?

Hi, @abigailcash !  I use the same Caudalie kit and essence.  I also don't like the moisturizer.  I've been using Tatcha The Water Cream for years.  I use the kit in the morning, the essence in the evening, and the water cream both times.  There is no lactic acid in the moisturizer.  I've been using this routine for two or three years.  I have combo/oily skin.

Re: Too many acids?

I was wondering about the lactic acid, @Titian06!! It's listed as like a highlighted ingredient on the product page on Sephora (one the of the badges),

But not specifically in the ingredients list. So weird! So it's either not in there at all, in which case the page should be updated, or it is derived from one of the extracts which probably means a small amount.

Re: Too many acids?

@haleyvvvv - I didn't notice it called out under the highlights.  I looked under the ingredients and looked it up on INCIDecoder.  None of the ingredients are listed as an acid, not even the Hedasei 3, which is a fermented product.  Lactic acid is also not mentioned on the product page on the Tatcha website.  Since my skin is sensitive to lactic acid, I do not use products with that ingredient.  I agree, the page needs to be updated or note which ingredient provides the lactic acid.

Re: Too many acids?

Ooooh. Thank you for doing the research, @Titian06!! So good to know!! @TeamBIC can we get some more info or an update to the highlights?  (Or let me know who to reach out to about it?).

Re: Too many acids?

Depends on your skin, @abigailcash!! Which isn't a satisfying answer, I'm sure. I have super dry and sensitive skin, so the amount of acids my skin can handle is pretty low. But it depends on your skin type and tolerance. When looking, there isn't really a percentage listed in any of these in terms of the different acids. With the Tatcha in particular, I don't see lactic acid as a specific ingredient, but it is likely in one of the plant extracts, if it is listed in the description that would be my guess. Lactic acid is also hydrating. You could use the water cream daily in the morning, maybe along with the vinopure products, and then either in the evening (if very concerned about too many acids) and/or once/twice a week to start, use the essence, before building up.
It is also a good idea to talk to a derm, if you can!
