Toner advice!!

I need help with a new toner. I used to use the Fresh Rose toner which was amaaaaazing on my skin but after time, either my skin got used to it or they changed the formula not sure but it didn’t do what it used to. Then I used the Belif which hazel toner because I heard which hazel is great but it was meh. I just bought The Ordinary glycolic acid toner but I haven’t used it yet since I read it’s only for night and can cause redness. For reference I have normal skin and I used to use toner twice a day. Recommendations are welcome (and needed and appreciated)!!!

Re: Toner advice!!

@ABourmeche if you want skin that feels soft and hydrated I absolutely L-O-V-E the ORIGINS - Dr. Andrew Weil For Origins™ Mega-Mushroom Relief & Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotion

I use this with other active ingredients and truly think it helps keep my skin calm and nourished.

RE: Toner advice!!

I like the Belif Aqua Bomb Hydrating Toner and the First said Beauty Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner. For toners, I like to stick with simple and hydrating since I use them so frequently. For exfoliating toners, I like the Youth to the People Kombucha + AHA Exfoliating Toner.

Re: Toner advice!!

@ABourmeche It sounds like your skin responded well to hydrating toner, so I'll throw out recommendations for two of my absolute favorites even though they aren't sold at Sephora. Benton's Snail Bee High Content Skin and Etude House's Moistfull Collagen Toner. Those are both amazing at adding some hydration and prepping your skin for later steps without being too heavy on the skin. Another great option is Nature Republic's aloe mist.

If you prefer something you can get at Sephora though, I'd recommend AMOREPACIFIC - Treatment Toner

RE: Toner advice!!

Have you tried the glow recipe watermelon toner? It’s pretty flipping amazing and everyone is raving about it. It looks like it is sold out online but if your malls are opened back up yet I would try to get your hands on it! It’s thicker than all other toners and it says to apply by palms of your hands or fingers. My skin feels dewy then it feels tight but not dry? Hard to explain but it’s very very good!

Toner advice!!

Honestly, once I tried Dr. Jart Ceramidin Liquid, I never looked back, just found other similar liquid ceramides that were priced differently. Japanese hydrating lotions are the shizz. But my favorite Japanese one got discontinued so I'm running back to Ceramidin on my knees. It actually evened out oil production on my combo skin and made my skin fat and strong and glowy. That being said, you are young with beautiful normal skin, so you may not want to add the weight of you have a moisturizer you like. With summer coming up (at least in the northern hemisphere), you may want to choose a nice refreshing mist to give your skin a quick quench. There's Dr. Jart's Cicapair calming mist if you have any redness after cleansing (I swear I don't work for them, I just love their stuff), or maybe Glow Recipe's mist which is I think from their watermelon line. Asian toners (like the Fresh one) are hydrating and non-astringent for getting hydration and glow in an easily absorbed watery layer that goes on before cream, and Sephora sells a few, but they're pretty expensive. AmorePacific and Sulwhasoo have toners that are much more about anti-aging than you need, and they're crazy pricey. SK-II has the most famous one that's popular with rich celebs, but a good cheaper dupe is the Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence that you can get from SokoGlam or MisshaUS dot com. That would be a great one for summer, as it's very watery and light, but really makes your skin glow. Or you could go truly simple and just use rosewater, which is popular with many women. Whichever you choose, you would use it right after cleansing in the mornings, and after the glycolic toner at night.

RE: Toner advice!!

I agree that essences are a wonderful alternative if you find toners aren’t working so well for you anymore. I love Tatcha’s essence but there are lots out there to try. If it’s a true toner you’re after then I swear by Laneige’s toner for normal to dry skin. I have normal skin and I truly love that toner, it’s the perfect extra shot of hydration while helping to calm redness and prep skin for everything else you’re about to throw at it, whether it’s just a moisturizer or a serum cocktail first. I’ve never experienced any irritation or redness with it, no dryness or breakouts, and it smells really nice too, without being overpowering. If you are prone to breakouts you might want to try Laneige’s toner for pores.

Re: RE: Toner advice!!

I had looked at Laniege’s and I wasn’t sure about it because I hadn’t heard enough regarding it. I was gifted the SKII essence and never used it as I was unsure how to as I used toner but I think I will try it now since I have it. Thanks so much for your advice!

RE: Toner advice!!

Tbh toner is not an overly important step. If it works for you then great but otherwise it doesn’t really matter. The Ordinary toner is a great active if that’s what you’re looking for. Glycolic acid is an aha which is a type of chemical exfoliant. Chemical exfoliants are generally considered better and more gentle than physical exfoliants like face scrubs. I would recommend limiting your use to once or twice a week to start out to see how your skin reacts to it and I don’t recommend daily use unless you have very oily/tough skin because over-exfoliating can cause some issues itself. However, if the ordinary is not the type of toner you are looking for, I would look into essences. Essences like toners but are more moisturizing and they would be much more similar to the fresh toner you used.

Re: RE: Toner advice!!

Thanks so much! I was actually gifted the SK-II pitera essence but I wasn’t exactly sure how to use it with me using toner! But I will try that as an alternative while

i have it
