The Ordinary Squalane and Buffer

Are these products (specifically the squalane) serums or face oil? Can they be used together or separately? And do you apply before or after moisturizer?

Re: The Ordinary Squalane and Buffer

You can definitely layer these 2 products. THE ORDINARY - Buffet is a water-based serum of hyaluronic acid and several peptides. The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane 1 oz/ 30 mL  is a hydrating oil (though The Ordinary doesnโ€™t call it an oil), so you should apply it after Buffet. Always apply Buffet before your moisturizer. Make sure you give Buffet enough time to soak into your skin before applying anything over it. I usually give it 2 minutes, otherwise itโ€™ll pill under my other products.

Some folks apply oils after moisturizing creams, but others swap that order. It depends on your personal preference. I usually apply oil first and cream second. My general order of steps is wash, tone, serums, oil, cream moisturizer, and (for daytime) sunscreen. I donโ€™t wear foundation but I do use a bit of concealer in my tear troughs; Iโ€™ve never had a facial oil cause any concealer pilling. Eh, I suppose it depends on the kind(s) of oil used.

Oh, and to learn more about how to use The Ordinaryโ€™s products together, visit their site and look for a โ€œRegimen Guideโ€ link. Thatโ€™s a good starting point. ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: The Ordinary Squalane and Buffer

@alicul96  Are you referring to the Ordinary "Buffet" ? If so, that's a water-based serum, so generally applied after cleansing/toning (but before any oil-based serums), patted in gently all over your face. I've used the Buffet for awhile, it absorbs quickly and only leaves a slightly tack/residue if I've used other serums as well, one of my favorite Ordinary products. THE ORDINARY - Buffet

As far as the squalane, I haven't used the Ordinary's version, but I do use Biossance's BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil

(great product). I've got combo/leaning dry skin and it's wonderful in the winter and I do occasionally use a few drops in the summer. It's the last item in my night routine, I will gently massage in a few drops (after moisturizer has fully absorbed) with slightly dampened hands. I do use lots of other facial oils with more actives, but the squalane/rose oil makes my skin feel super soft and silky so it's periodically in my routine. I tend to avoid oils in my daytime regimen since not all foundations/powders play nicely with all oils, so I stick to other types of serums and moisturizers.

The Ordinary Squalane and Buffer

I don't like using oils and creams/gels together. What often happens (it's very annoying) is I'll apply almond oil or jojobo oil to my body (not my face) and the oil residue (even if I wash my hands) will somehow transfer to my face causing my makeup to ball up. I hate when this happens. It not only wastes my products it wastes my time. Now I only use oils if I'm not doing my makeup and don't have to go anywhere. I hope this helps๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒบ
