A bit ago when I got Hylamide SubQ Mist and SubQ Skin, I posted a general call for anyone who used the Mist to tell me what they thought of it, and not even crickets answered the question. Fair enough! And I still don't know if the Mist actually does anything and strongly suspect I bought overpriced water in a spray bottle, but I feel I would be letting my community down if I did not tell you that I think Hylamide SubQ Skin might actually be some kind of major league skin sorcery. I got it from Deciem, the parent company of The Ordinary who actually has a few different brands they make, and primarily because it was just too tempting not to try it. The anti-aging claims are impressive, especially the promise to improve skin texture, the reviews are great, and at $22 US, I'm way too into skincare not to try it. As I've posted about before, I use Curology, I recommend it all the time, I love it, but even at the lowest possible concentration of tretinoin, I can't use it more often than every third day without my skin flaking peeling hurting ouch. Which is weird because I don't have sensitive skin otherwise. Every third day is enough to keep my skin clear, my pores tight, and my skin up on my face, but my acne scars aren't going away as much as I'd like and I generally felt like I maybe wasn't getting all the anti-aging I could. I'm at the age/stage where lines are fighting for space on my face, and I actively fight them by upping my game, trying new products, researching foods and supplements, etc. I know they'll win eventually, but I LOVE having good skin now as I never had it when I was younger. So anyway, I ordered Hylamide SubQ Skin and a bottle of overpriced water and I didn't expect much difference. But much to my genuine surprise, it actually really works for me. It doesn't burn or irritate, it feels like a hyaluronic acid serum going on, and I started seeing results within days. I was really skeptical, so I waited to say anything, but my skin texture really has improved, it's smoother and the dips and divots of old scars seem to have filled out? It's hard to describe if you don't have these issues, but I have skin that has scars from every pimple cyst and zit I ever had, and while I know microneedling works for many people to fill those in, I was never going to try it because it relies on your skin's ability to naturally produce collagen to smoothe out scars and as I said, my skin is not good at doing that!! But now when I look at my cheekbone at that angle you know in the mirror, the one that shows the curve of your cheekbone, my skin looks... smooth. And young. But smoother than when it really was young. Like...not my skin. It's still not glass skin, but it's not broken glass skin, either. The lines around my eyes are less visible, though the one on the right side of my mouth doesn't seem different, my eyes seem more open and my lids look less crepey. There is a separate eye product (SubQ Eyes, it's a simple line) that I know is very popular, but it was sold out and selling for $50 on Amazon (actual retail price, $13.99), but using the SubQ Skin on my eyes definitely works! And unlike the Mist which just confused me, the SubQ Skin works really well in a larger routine, as a serum, and is cheap enough to use twice a day like it says to. It even spreads well so a couple drops really does get your whole face. The obvious disclaimers are that I don't work for them, and I can only speak to the effectiveness of my particular issues, specifically rough texture, fine lines, and thinning lids. I have no idea if this prevents anything or if it does anything at all for skin that already looks good. I would say this is good for maturing skin and probably mature skin based on what it does for my crepey lids. And it did nothing for the one line by my mouth, so it's not a deep crease product, as far as my experience goes. I don't even know if the effect is temporary (like with DMAE) or more lasting. I know that when I put it on this morning after only getting a few hours of sleep, my skin looked MUCH better right away. It doesn't seem to be doing anything for the porous texture of my...pores. Like, no better no worse on that front. And it doesn't feel like it adds moisture, so I have no idea how it's doing what it's doing. And it may work on issues I don't happen to have, I don't know. But when everyone is posting questions asking what actually works, this works. On some stuff. Really well. And I hope Sephora starts carrying more Deciem brands and fewer $245 hyaluronic acid serums because 🙄. Oh, and also the usual disclaimer that I am obsessed with skincare and my skin and my dramatic improvements may not actually be visible to anyone else. lol
