T-zone Getting Oilier

Okay, I have a confession: I have a terrible habit of only washing my face and applying my skincare if I wore makeup that day (I usually wear makeup 1-3 times a week right now).

I have been trying to change that, though, and have been washing and taking care of my face twice daily for several days now. In that time I have noticed my t-zone getting a lot oilier than usual. Is this just my skin reacting to a change in my routine and something that will balance out over time? Or is it a sign that something in my routine is not working with my skin? Or is this just my skin's natural state and taking proper care of that is bringing it out? Or is it something else entirely?

For context, I have combo skin, typically a little oily in the t-zone and mostly normal in the cheeks, but sometimes dry depending on climate.

I can list my skincare products if needed.

what kind of cleanser are you using? Sebaceous glands will start to overproduce if you're stripping all the oil off your skin. Try a gentler cleanser OR an oil based cleanser if you're chronically oily. q

I wash with origins checks and balances, exfoliate with First Aid Beauty facial radiance pads, and lately I've been using Ole Henriksen truth serum and moisturizing with Peter Thomas Roth water drench cloud cream. The serum and moisturizer are samples, usually I moisturize with First Aid's coconut smoothie moisturizer. I also use either Boscia makeup breakup oil or it Cosmetics Bye-bye Makeup to remove makeup when I wear it.

RE: T-zone Getting Oilier

There are two main reasons that I see faces get oily. 1 is usually around the time your cycle will start and 2 is because sometimes your face will produce more oil to prevent you skin from drying out due to a new face routine. Give it some time to balance out. Also some holistic doctors feel that it's a sign of healthy skin.

I didn't think about my cycle, I am a few days away from starting and usually a week out is when I would break out a little bit, but I haven't really broken out this week. I'll take extra oil over pimples any day 🙂 And despite the extra oil, I feel like my face definitely feels and looks healthier.
