Sunday Riley Help!

I’ve recently started using Good Genes and I’ve been applying it at night before my moisturizer- but I just ordered JUNO oil and C.E.O. And I have NO IDEA how to use them properly. I was told good genes should be used in the AM but I don’t like to use sunscreen (I KNOW ok? Lol) and I use a B.B. Cream with SPF but I don’t want to become sensitive to sunlight- I’m 30 and I’ve never had a sun “burn” only a “tan”(which I know is technically a burn). I’m confused what to do :(. I don’t like too many layers on my skin bc they never seem to sink in and always “pill” on my face.

Re: Sunday Riley Help!

I have a similar question.  I received the Luna and Good Genes in the Sephora Skin in Your 40's Play kit.  They recommended using the Luna followed by Good Genes at night and I think followed by Tacha water cream as moisturizer.  I was in Sephora today and the associate suggested using CEO moisturizing cream instead of the Tacha to provide more moisture in the winter.  Is it OK to use all of these together?  Also, I see comments that you need to use SPF if you are using the Good Genes - they did not mention that at all in the Sephora Play video.  Any ideas on what SPF to use and when?  Thanks!

Re: Sunday Riley Help!

Hello! You can combine Luna, Good Genes, and C.E.O. C + E antiOXIDANT Protect + Repair Moisturizer. Apply Luna to cleansed skin at night follow with Good Genes and then C.E.O. C + E antiOXIDANT Protect + Repair Moisturizer! We do recommend using SPF when using Good Genes!

RE: Re: Sunday Riley Help!

I actually bought the CEO moisturizer- I didn’t realize there was a serum as well! How would you recommend using the CEO moisturizer, good genes and Juno?

Re: RE: Re: Sunday Riley Help!

Hello! We would recommend using Good Genes at night and following with either Juno or C.E.O. C + E antiOXIDANT Protect + Repair Moisturizer. You may use either C.E.O. C + E antiOXIDANT Protect + Repair Moisturizer or Juno as your moisturizer during the day!

RE: Sunday Riley Help!

@xsingthesorrowx If you don’t plan on using an SPF of at least 30 everyday...under your makeup...then I wouldn’t bother using any AHA/BHAs. You’re only causing more damage and wasting your money.

RE: Sunday Riley Help!

HI! Let me break this down for you: 1. If you do not plan to use sunscreen in the daytime, I encourage you NOT to use AHA and BHA products (i.e Good Genes and CEO)... because AHA and BHA products exfoliate and give you ~fresh~ skin, not using SPF (spf in makeup doesn’t count as full coverage, unfortunately...) will actually damage your skin!! 2. I would use Good Genes at night and layer JUNO after waiting a few minutes for good genes to dry (make sure it’s COMPLETELY dry before adding the oil.... pilling means you haven’t let the product seep in your skin yet) 3. I would use CEO in the morning because vitamin c is awesome to protect against free radicals and the environment! Remember to use sunscreen though!!! Hope this helps!

Re: Sunday Riley Help!

Legit, every morning and night, with Sunday Riley stuff, I'm like, how the HECK do I layer these??? I google this question once a month. Listen, if you're familiar with Korean skincare, you know it's cleanse and tone, serums, then moisturizers, THEN OILS, then (at night) a sleep mask.

But Sunday Riley shakes things up, and you are supposed to use their dry oils at the end of your serums, before moisturizers. If I'm not mistaken, Good Genes comes after Sunday Riley oils but before moisturizer. I prefer Good Genes as a night treatment because it DOES pill. Also, it's an AHA—I'd only use it at night.

So for ME, at night, I'll wash, then wipe down with Dermaclear (micellar water), then wipe again with toner (Thayer's witch hazel), then apply serums (by The Ordinary, for instance), then snail serum (and let that soak in), then apply a few drops of Luna all over my face, then apply Good Genes, then moisturizer, then face pack. (My day route is simpler: I skip most of my night procedure, and I drop a few drops of Juno into my moisturizer before I apply it.) I know Sunday Riley's products are super confusing. Let me know if I can help out some more!

Re: Sunday Riley Help!

Could you help me, please? I wanted to get the Luna, Good Genes, and the C.E.O. serum, but I don't know what order to use them.

Re: Sunday Riley Help!

I love the Sunday Riley products but extremely confused with their direction on how to use and layer.  They need clear advice on using the products always asking them, and get different responses and never clear.

Re: Sunday Riley Help!

That's a really great explanation @jennatar!  Thank you!!  🙂

RE: Re: Sunday Riley Help!

I love you said that bc I literally stood in front of my products and said “well heck... what do I do?” Lol thanks so much for sharing your routine! I’m definitely going to try that.

Re: Sunday Riley Help!

Hi @xsingthesorrowx!  I hope I can offer you some helpful tips.  It can get confusing trying to add all of these great products to your skincare routine!

First, about the Good Genes; I have heard that it should be  used 2-3 times a week.  That might make things a little easier for you to mix and match.  On Sephora's site, at the information section for each product that is for sale, there is a "how to use" section that can be pretty helpful.  I'm assuming this info is from the manufacturers of the products. Here is the info listed on Sephora's Good Genes product page for usage instructions:

Suggested Usage:
-Apply one to two pumps to clean skin.

Advanced tips:
-Layer under Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream to fight the appearance of stubborn hyperpigmentation.
-Layer on top of Luna Sleeping Night Oil (or use Good Genes in the morning and Luna at night) for anti-aging radiance and the appearance of healthy, youthful-looking skin.
-Can be applied under foundation as a radiance primer, without any oiliness.
-Can be combined with Ceramic Slip (two pumps of Good Genes and one pump Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser) for a "Flash Facial" mask.
-Leave on for one to 10 minutes for an immediately radiant, deep detox facial.

The Juno oil, as with any oil, is used to moisturize and "seal" moisture in the skin, so after your moisturizer is a good time to use it.  Or, use only the oil if you don't need both.

Here's the info available on the CEO Serum's page:

Suggested Usage:
-Apply one to two pumps to clean skin, morning and night.
-For enhanced visible brightening, follow with Good Genes, CEO Protect + Repair Cream, or Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream.
-Vitamin C pairs excellently with retinol, so this product works very well when applied on top of Luna Sleeping Night Oil.

This is the info for the CEO moisturizer: (I wasn't sure which CEO product you are using)

Suggested Usage:
-Can be used morning and night.
-Can be used in conjunction with Luna Sleeping Night Oil—retinol and vitamin C work well together.

In regards to the pilling you are experiencing, some tips I found helpful are to wait enough time for the product to absorb before adding another (it can take longer than you think,) and to maybe apply less product.  I was using a serum that was tacky until I cut back on the amount I was using, but it still worked well after reducing the amount.  If the pilling is due to your BB cream or foundation mixing with your skincare, I have read that if you use oil-based skincare, you should use an oil-based foundation.  Likewise, match non-oil skincare with oil-free foundations.  I'm thinking the reasoning behind this is that if you use oils in your skincare, then apply a water-based foundation, it won't sit well, just like trying to add water and oil together won't mix.

RE: Re: Sunday Riley Help!

Oh I didn’t realize there was another CEO product lol. I got the moisturizer that says to use it 2x a day. I feel like I need to make a chart of when to do all this smh I miss the days when I wasn’t obsessed with skin care. Thank you for taking the time to gather all that information! It definitely helps to see it all on one page!

RE: Re: Sunday Riley Help!

This is all a great post. I love Sunday Riley products. They were suggested to me a few years ago and I’ve been using them ever since. I just love her personal story, too.
