Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

Hi guys! I'm new to the forums, so I apologize if this question was already addressed. I asked for a sample of Good Genes on Saturday while at Sephora. I applied it Saturday, Sunday, and Monday night. Today, I woke up with a wicked rash on my face! It's almost like little zits all over my face. I'm also extremely red (expected, but I am like REALLY red). I'm not sure if this is a normal reaction to this or not. I've been blessed with very clear skin, so it's bothering the daylights out of me. Has anyone else had a reaction to this product? Anyone have a recommendation about how to relieve it? Thank you!

Re: Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

I had a very similar reaction. Like I’ve tried it multiple times because I love the smell of good genes but every time I get a really bad rash from it. Such a bummer. I usually go back to my tried and true skincare routine and it clears up after a week or so. Maybe try a soothing mask? Dr. Jart’s Rubber mask with the shaker shot thing is a really good one for that. And Glamglow blue mask too.

RE: Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

part of your problem could be using too much too soon. it's a very strong product and applying it three days in a row right off the bat is probably asking for trouble. strong exfoliants should be used every other day at most imo. that said, even with a few days in between applications, i ended up breaking out in cysts after testing this product and i haven't had cysts since i took accutane five years ago. went back for a sample of the drunk elephant TLC serum instead and have had zero issues with it.

Re: Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

@heyimholly89 same happened to me on the area between my nose and upper lip. If youve never used a product like Good Genes or have sensitive skin  you need to start slow or use it with an oil underneath. I continued use the oil and within about 3 days it was mostly gone and it did leave marks but those went away within a week and a half of using Goood Genes. Now I can use it everyday without an oil straight to my skin with a mositurizer on top. The oil I used was the Farsali oil. For moisturizer I use Cerave mositurizing cream from Target.

RE: Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

It states to use it as a mask for 10-15 minutes if you have sensitive skin. Did you do that or let it sit on your face all night?

Re: RE: Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

I only used it only once for 10 - 15 minutes, and it still gave me a nasty chemical burn.  My skin was red, scaly, and painful for almost a week.  This product is definitely not for everyone.

Re: RE: Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

I never leave reviews but I created an account just to respond in this thread.  I used a sample of the good genes product - as directed overnight.  I’ve never had sensitive skin and am only allergic to cats, which one assumes aren’t in your skin care. I woke up the next morning with such a nasty chemical burn that my eyes were swollen shut, I spent the day in the ER and missed two full days of work. Five days later, even with prescriptions for steroids and antihistamines to get the swelling down, I am still bright red, itchy and bumpy (resembling cystic acne scars though I have never had issues with acne).  The doctor I saw shook his head at the product and ingredients saying use is mis directed given the potency.  I googled before using and only found positive reviews.  Now I google “Sunday Riley chemical burn”  and many have had the same reaction.  This product needs to be taken off the market before it seriously harms or disfigures someone.

Re: Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

Oh my god. After a lot of searching, I finally found someone that had the same exact experience. I applied this serum last night, and today I have small red rash all over my chin, and sides of my nose and cheeks. It burned like crazy when I washed my face. I should probably return this now! Don't want to pay to get rash/zits.

@HP166 As @darlyndar has mentioned the product does state...

@HP166 As @darlyndar has mentioned the product does state that if you have sensitive skin you can use it as a mask. I have a tolerence to acid products so I dont react to this what so ever, no tingles, no redness at all. Of course if you are not comfortable you can return it, but Good Genes is seriously a great product.

RE: Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

I’m super sensitive and haven’t had a reaction. If you still want to try To see if it will work I agree with the person who said to stop using it til your face calms down, then try it once or twice a week to see if that works without a reaction. I use it every other day and for me it’s a wonderful product.

Re: Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

I am experiencing the same right now . I don't know what to do . I had only very small pores under my eyes near the nose . But after 4 times of use my face is filled with open pores , redness and bumps . My face was pore free . No idea how to recover from this . After this whatever i apply in my face , it's giving me redness and pores becoming more visible

RE: Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

Hi. I personally have not had this type of reaction to Good Genes. My advice is to stop using the product. Give your skin time to rest and see if it goes back to its original state. Just out of curiosity, did you moisturize after and/or use any other products after?

RE: Sunday Riley Good Genes reaction?

I had very red agitated face and peeling skin after two days of use so stopped it. I generally don't have that kind of reaction and I was NOT new to exfoliating. Has been using AHA for sometime now. I read great reviews of this product but I guess it's not for me or maybe this was purging and I may give it another try in a month or so.
