Re: Skincare routine order

@kellyricaurte Here's a helpful graphic that includes most skincare steps. Of course, most people wouldn't be using all of these, but it gives you an idea of how to layer the items that you do use:

RE: Skincare routine order

AM- Origins Micellar water (i only use cleanser at night) Fresh Kombucha Toner Volition Mushroom serum Sephora Brightening Eye Cream Volition Moisturizer + 2 drops of Emerald CBD oil Farmacy Mineral SPF -let it all sink in for at least 10 min then proceed with makeup. Right now, we’re all home so no makeup needed PM- Biossance Cleansing oil (if I wear makeup) iS Clinial cleansing complex (not sold at Sephora) Son & Park Beauty Water Fresh Kombucha Toner Tatcha Violet C Brightening Serum Obagi Clinical Eye Brightener Tatcha Water Cream + 2 drops Emerald CBD oil Roll my face with a jade roller Drink a glass of water then good night! Having combo skin, this regimen has worked for me. I’ve come to learn my skin needs to be moisturized but also not stripped of its natural oils. My using cleanser just at night it’s calm down the oily parts of my skin . Hope this helps, good luck.

Re: Skincare routine order

@kellyricaurte  Here are some basic skincare routines:

AM

  1. Wash
  2. Tone
  3. Exfoliate, if not done at night - do this only 1-3 times a week
  4. Serum(s) - in general, apply them in order of thinnest to thickest consistency
  5. Moisturizer(s)
  6. Sunscreen

PM

  1. Remove makeup (or, the first step of a double cleanse)
  2. Wash (or, second step of a double cleanse)
  3. Tone
  4. Exfoliate, if not done in the morning - again, only 1-3 times a week
  5. Serum(s)
  6. Moisturizer(s)

You can add other steps as needed. For instance, I often use a hydrating mist between my serum and moisturizer step to give my moisturizer more hydration to seal into my skin. I use sheet masks or wash-off masks most nights; where I use them in my routine depends on the type of mask it is. For instance, I always use moisturizing masks after my serums, but if I have a vitamin C mask I’ll probably use it before my serums.

About toner:

Spoiler
This step is arguably unnecessary. Toners used to be very astringent and were used to rebalance pH, as well as remove any lingering traces of makeup. Some doctors, estheticians, and beauty bloggers say toners are still required to rebalance pH. Others (usually doctors) say skin can rebalance itself and doesn’t need a toner’s help there.

Nowadays, toners are formulated for various other things: exfoliation, hydration, a dose of antioxidants, etc. I use a toner (e.l.f. Hydrating Water Essence) to hydrate my skin and get a daily dose of niacinamide.

About moisturizers:

Spoiler
I lump cream moisturizers and facial oils into this category. Not all oils are truly moisturizing: some are not occlusive, meaning they won’t actually seal hydration into skin. So I generally don’t rely on facial oil to act as a final moisturizer. Instead, I layer facial oil under my cream moisturizer. But honestly, you can apply cream and oil in whichever order you prefer. You can even mix facial oil into cream moisturizer and apply the mix to your face.

“Where’s the eye cream step?” Well...

Spoiler
I quit using products specifically marketed as “eye cream” last year. Most full face moisturizers work perfectly fine under the eyes. That skin is the thinnest on your face (well, aside from your lip skin), but that doesn’t mean it needs creams formulated with smaller molecules to better sink in. In fact, any cream will sink into thinner skin more quickly than into thicker skin.

Now, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use an eye cream. 🙂 It all depends on your particular skin’s needs and your personal preferences. I just use a facial oil under my eyes, and then top it with my full face cream moisturizer. I should note that I have VERY dry undereyes (I have combo skin, and most of it is dry), so I layer moisturizers onto that skin. I’ll apply 2 layers of facial oil and/or 2 layers of cream moisturizer if needed. Even when I was using an eye cream, I still had to apply it in layers.

There are charts and pretty graphics online that list skincare routine steps. There’s also a Korean “7 skin method” routine... I don’t do that, but some folks find it beneficial.

RE: Skincare routine order

I’ve been following this cool esthetician on ig and twitter, her name is @LABeautyologist and this is the routine she recommends: Cleanse Tone Exfoliate Tone Mask Tone Serum Tone Moisturizer & Oil. She also has a video on her YouTube (The Golden Rx) explaining and demoing it. Hope this helps!
