Skincare Routine - The Ordinary

Hi Beauties!

I was looking for some skincare routine help.

As of right now, I use Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser, to wash my face (daily) Kiehl's creamy eye treatment with avocado (nightly), and their Ultra Facial Cream (nightly).

Apparently, turning 26 hit me hard, because now I'm second guessing my skincare routine, and want to completely switch it up. I feel that my face has gotten pretty dull the last little while (9 months), and going through a lot of personal issues and loss has really dulled and aged my skin.

I have normal to oily skin (T-Zone). The other only main problem I have are my under eye circles which are hereditary. (Thanks mom!)

I am intrigued by The Ordinary brand, but any recommendations are super helpful and welcomed!

KIEHL'S SINCE 1851 - Ultra Facial Cream

KIEHL'S SINCE 1851 - Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

KIEHL'S SINCE 1851 - Ultra Facial Cleanser

Thank you in advance! xo

Re: Skincare Routine - The Ordinary

Hey girl! @saruuu I also recently turned 26 and basically all of your skin concerns and type are speaking to me haha.

In the morning I use the Dermalogica normal/oily skin kit. It comes with a cleanser, toner, eye cream, physical exfoliating scrub and a moisturizer. I only use the physical exfoliant once a week because it’s a little much for my skin. The moisturizer is really lightweight so it’s good for this time of year. I prefer something a little heavier in the winter. Also I don’t see you’ve mentioned you use spf in the morning - SOOO important! Especially if you want to incorporate actives. I use a neutrogena oil free non-comodegenic  moisturizer with SPF 30 every morning.

my evenings are where it gets complicated. I use a mild cleanser (The one you use will be fine), then I follow up with the KIEHL'S SINCE 1851 - Ultra Facial Toner.Once a week I have a specific routine because I have a prescription topical for acne from a dermatologist. Luckily you don’t have that concern, so I’ll skip over that. The other 6 nights I do: 2 nights with an active chemical peel. I use The Ordinary 5% Lactic Acid. It’s very mild and you can build yourself up to the stronger one if you like after your skin is used to it. I follow up with a heavier moisturizer that has a couple drops of The Ordinary 100% plant-derived squalane. It’s an excellent hydrator that didn’t break me out. I use it on its own sometimes as well. The other nights I focus on brightening. After my toner, I’ll put a bit of the The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% Serum with Pure L-Ascorbic Acid 1 oz/ 30 mLand let it absorb for 5-10 minutes. It’s gritty and has a weird texture and takes a bit to get into the skin. A little goes a LONG way. If it starts to pill and rub into little balls on your face, you’ve put too much. Once I feel that it’s absorbed, I’ll moisturize or just use the squalane, and go to bed. I don’t like the silicone version because I don’t like to put silicone on my face. I also use the OLEHENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Eye Crèmefor dark circles. If you don’t mind the formula, and want to try TO products, the The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG Depuffing Eye Serum for Dark Circles 1 oz/ 30 mLis great for puffiness and dark circles too! I personally prefer a cream for my under eye, so if you like your avocado one, I would stick with that.

Yesss girl!! Thank you!!!!

I will definitely check out all those products!

Thank you! xo

Re: Skincare Routine - The Ordinary

@saruuu sorry the post was so long LOL I swear I’ve tried literally everything, but the Vitamin C is amazing. I used to use OH truth serum because it was more convenient (it layered well in the AM with moisturizer), but the ordinary is the one that gives me better results. It’s a pain to use at first, but it’s even faded out a lot of discolouration that I have on my face from previous acne! And for $5 😂😂

Re: Skincare Routine - The Ordinary

Omg, don't apologize!!
Absolutely love the fact that you took the time to actually take me through your routine. I've just felt so lost the last few months and have been totally out of the loop! xo

Re: Skincare Routine - The Ordinary

@saruuu anytime ❤️❤️ The community is great for that!! My number one advice would be to listen to your skin when it comes to moisturizer. Sometimes I wake up and I’m an oil slick, other times it’s the Sahara desert on my cheeks. And neeeever use something that has alcohol denat as an ingredient (other alcohols are actually good). It’ll make you sooooo much oilier TRUST🤦🏽‍♀️
