Skin Pilling After Sunscreen.. Help??

Hello!!

Hope you guys can steer me in the right direction! I’ve recently tried to use new skincare products other than just moisturizer. I’ve noticed my skin has improved a lot with my new regimen. I’ve had really dry skin with a few small acne scars. My dry skin has improved greatly and the acne scars have mostly lightened up. One thing that I have noticed is that my AM routine is leaving some sort of residue on my face after my final step (sunscreen). I’m using Maelove sunscreen. It does seems to have a pilling effect but I’m also starting to notice that my skin feels grimey throughout the day. Almost like I didn’t rub it in all the way even though I spend some time in the morning rubbing it in (lol 😂).

Heres my AM routine:

-The Ordinary hyaluronic Acid

-The Ordinary Buffet

-The Ordinary Vitamin C 23% suspension

-Neutrogena  Hydro Boost (I mix this and the vitamin c together)

-Maelove Sunscreen

I will take any suggestions you guys can give me! The hyaluronic acid and hydro boost has really helped my dry skin. But I think it is definitely the sunscreen or hydro boost that is causing the pilling.

I’m kind of thinking of looking into a moisturizer that has vitamin c in it and a different sunscreen. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks!

Re: Skin Pilling After Sunscreen.. Help??

I had once a similar thing and it was sunscreen. I contacted canadian pharmacy ( i trust them, cause i order all my meds, vitamins and special creams there) and they recommended me to change my sunscreen for some time. Worked well. Obviously there where some components inside that gave reaction on my sensitive skin.

RE: Skin Pilling After Sunscreen.. Help??

I had the same problem with my sunscreen. I found out that it wasn’t the sunscreen that was the problem. It was reacting to my serum. Ive also noticed that if I didn’t let my moisturizer dry long enough after putting on my serum, it too causes pilling. I’ve recently switched out the Caudalie serum for a new serum I wanted to try and it didn’t cause pilling.

I use almost the exact same products as you except the sunscreen and I have the exact same issue!
My routine is:

The Ordinary hyaluronic Acid

The Ordinary Caffeine Eye Cream

Dr Jart Cicpair Serum

The Ordinary Vitamin C 23% suspension

Neutrogena Hydro Boost (I don’t mix them together though)

I wait for my products to sink in and it still happens so then I’ve tried not using certain products with others and I’m 90% sure it’s go to do HydroBoost. I think it’s because of the way it interacts with the Vit C or the fact it has dimethicones (silicones) in it so it sits on top of the skin rather than completely being absorbed. I’m going to try a different moisturiser now and see if it stops or reduces.

@kelli1616

Probably the hydroboost, but I would not mix vitamin c with anything else and would let it work on your skin on its own. Mixing different textures/ingredients doesn't always work.

Apply the vitamin c, let it absorb, then go in with the hydroboost, let it absorb and then go in with your sunscreen. Avoiding excessive pressure/rubbing when applying the SPF may help as well.

Skin Pilling After Sunscreen.. Help??

@kelli1616 try patting your sunscreen on instead of massaging it all over, see if that helps at all

Re: Skin Pilling After Sunscreen.. Help??

Spoiler
Thanks! I tried patting it in this morning and worked so much better! No grimey feeling so far!

RE: Skin Pilling After Sunscreen.. Help??

I don’t know. It maybe the sunscreen. I had a brand that always felt grimy and pilly. I’ve started using Tatcha’s and it’s been wonderful. A it’s so concentrated a dab will do you. Btw, I live in Hawaii so sunscreen is a vital part of my skincare.

Thank you! I’ll look into it. 🤗
