Skin Care recommendations

What is the best face cleansers and moisturizers for dry skin?

Re: Skin Care recommendations

It took me a long time to figure this out (believe me, I've tried SO many things), but my absolute favorite face cream for dry skin is La Mer Crème de la Mer Moisturizer for Anti-Aging and Barrier Repair . I don't like saying it, either, because it is EXPENSIVE. But it's so worth it, that I will keep buying it. Prior to finding it, I loved Biossance Omega Repair Deep Hydration Moisturizer with Ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid + Squalane - it felt so good on my face. I also have tried Skinceuticals' Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2. That made a good day cream, but it couldn't replace the La Mer. Now I've been using Naturopathica's Calendula Essential Hydrating cream during the day, and the La Mer at night to try and keep the cost down. I'd rather use it day and night, but... it's just so expensive lol.

For facial cleansers, I really like Biossance Squalane + Tea Tree Cleansing Gel 5.07 oz/ 150 mL for the morning, and Biossance Antioxidant Makeup Removing Cleansing Oil + Squalane 6.76 oz / 200 mL at night. The oil does a great job of removing makeup and keeping my face from drying out. The tea tree helps with acne, because I will have random breakouts, especially around my time of the month.

Re: Skin Care recommendations

Cera Ve hydrating facial cleanser. 🙂 No need to go crazy with a wash-off product. Invest into moisturizers, oils, and treatments for sure. But a simple and non-drying cleanser is all you really need!

@Raeshana we are inundating you with possibilities!!
I have aging dry skin and I use Biossance Antioxidant Makeup Removing Cleansing Oil + Squalane 6.76 oz / 200 mL  as my cleanser. It has squalane which is a very hydrating oil but the cleanser doesn’t leave your face feeling oily. Instead, it feels clean and hydrated. As moisturizer I am currently using CLINIQUE Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+™ for Barrier Repair  After cleansing and before the moisturizer I apply several serums with anti aging properties. But the BEST moisturizer that I have found is actually The Ordinary Amino Acids + B5 Hydration Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL . It has a water like texture but it is packed with amazing ingredients and a few drops are enough to leave my skin fully hydrated. It is very affordable so if you haven’t tried it, you may want to.

Re: Skin Care recommendations

I have very dry and sensitive skin, I use the Youth to the People kale superfood cleanser and Youth to the People Adaptogen deep moisture cream moisturizer. Both and great for dry skin and leave me feeling clean and refreshed.

Re: Skin Care recommendations

Tatchas dewy is amazing for dry skin

Re: Skin Care recommendations

@Raeshana  Skinfix Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream Refillable Barrier Moisturizer with Ceramides  and Kate Somerville DeliKate™ Recovery Cream are both fantastic for dry skin.

Re: Skin Care recommendations

@Raeshana ,

My skin is combo oily, but can get dry in winter. Here are some items that have worked well for me in winter.

For cleanser, philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser is a good choice.

For under makeup, Caudalie Vinosource-Hydra Moisturizing Sorbet 1.3 oz/ 40 mL  is good, or you could go with something like Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Primer Oil Nourish 1 oz/ 30 mL . For general wear (no makeup), the primer oil  or Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin ™ Moisturizing Cream are great, At night, I occasionally add Youth To The People Mini Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Night Cream + Mask with Vitamin C 0.5 oz/15 ml  or LANEIGE Hypoallergenic Cica Sleeping Mask

Final recommendation - Get a humidifier. I always run one (at least at night), and it has really helped to combat winter dry skin.

Re: Skin Care recommendations

I have very dry skin, even in hot and humid Florida. Right now I’m loving the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm and the Farmacy Honey Halo Ultra-Hydrating Ceramide Moisturizer

I also always use a facial oil at night and my favorites are the Farmacy Honey Grail Ultra-Hydrating Face Oil 1 oz/ 30 mL and Youth To The People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Oil with Squalane and Antioxidants 1 oz / 30 ml

Re: Skin Care recommendations

@Raeshana Origins Checks and Balances™ Frothy Face Wash 1.7 oz/ 50 mL Caudalie Vinosource-Hydra SOS Intense Hydration Moisturizer 1.6 oz/ 50 mL

Re: Skin Care recommendations

@Raeshana  Depends a lot on your particular skin condition and any sensitivities you may have. My skin's mostly-dry combo but also very inflammation-prone/reactive, and there are certain ingredients my face hates. Many Sephora-sold cleansers that work for other folks with dry skin leave my face very dry and stripped, and my skin reacts badly to some of them.

Cleansers:

Spoiler
At night, I use CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser Bar on my face and body while I'm in the shower. It's kinda the bar version of CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser. If I need to remove a face full of makeup (tinted moisturizer, tinted sunscreen, etc.) first, I use The INKEY List Oat Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm 5 oz/ 150 mL or Paula's Choice Omega + Complex Cleansing Balm 3.5 oz/ 104 mL and then follow with the CeraVe bar.

On the occasional mornings I wash my face (beyond just gently wiping it with a wet plush microfiber cloth), I usually use Paula's Choice Optimal Results Hydrating Cleanser. Sometimes I use The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm as a morning cleanser, especially if my skin's healing from a bad reaction or other damage.

Moisturizers:

Spoiler
For AM, this changes with the weather/seasons. In hot weather, my morning moisturizer is any broad spectrum sunscreen that contains at least one good moisturizing ingredient. That's often Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 PA+++ 1.7 oz/ 50 mL (contains shea butter and dimethicone), but I rotate through several different sunscreens by various brands. In cooler weather, I need a moisturizer under my sunscreen. My current favorite is Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer. In the depths of Chicago winter, I sometimes use a layer of petrolatum-based balm to part or all of my face (beneath my sunscreen) to protect my face from windburn and really seal in hydration. I use Aquaphor Ointment or CeraVe Healing Ointment for that.

At night, I use Paula's Choice CLEAR Oil-Free Moisturizer 2 oz/ 60 mL because it plays nice with my nightly retinaldehyde product which contains an oil. If my skin needs to heal from excessive dryness or damage, I use one of those petrolatum-based balms as a moisturizer.

I always apply moisturizer to damp skin (that goes for my body as well) so I seal in hydration instead of dryness.
