Skin Care Routine and Makeup Products ( Newbie )

Hello ! I am learning as well as was wondering what kind of facial/makeup products is good for my sensitive dry skin . I have eczema and Iโ€™m hesitant to try out these any products , that is out there in the world , which makes me overwhelmed about how I feel towards whether itโ€™s taking care of my skin or makeup in general . Iโ€™ve been told that I can use these makeup brand : Clinique , DermaBlend , and First Aid Beauty ( FAB ) As for facial care : The Body Shop ( in which my friend recommended for me ) Iโ€™m certainly looking for anything related to : vegan and animal cruelty free - or whatever thatโ€™ll cause my skin to breakout . Thank you ! Hoping for some replies ! ๐Ÿ˜„

Re: Skin Care Routine and Makeup Products ( Newbie )

Hi, I also have sensitive skin. I've learned over the years that much of my sensitivities are triggered by skin allergies. Skin allergies are different than food allergies in that your skin may take 12 to 36 hours to show a reaction to an allergen, and sometimes the reaction is more subtle like increased redness (although sometimes you will develop worse ones like flaky skin, bumps, or even mini blisters). One allergen that is in many skin care and hair care products is Methylisothiazolinone and many people are allergic to this and don't know it - it is a preservative.  Read product labels and if you see this in the ingredients, don't buy it. Also, although essential oils are marketed as 'all natural' and beneficial for skin, it can make sensitive skin worse. Other ingredients to avoid are alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, and fragrances/dyes.

Use gentle, non-foaming cleansers on your face, and if you wear makeup or sunscreen, it's a good idea to do a double cleanse at night to make sure you remove all of it.  Using a gentle toner (without alcohol or which hazel) after cleansing will restore your skin's Ph balance, since cleansing will make it too alkaline.

Lastly, use a good moisturizer that is also gentle. If your skin is really dry, try mixing in 1 drop of argan oil to your moisturizer before putting it on.  Honestly, I have good luck with the Neutrogena sensitive skin moisterizer and I add in either argan oil or jojoba oil to make it more hydrating.  But, obviously more expensive moisturizers tend to have other ingredients that are even more beneficial for your skin.

Be mindful that you should only add 1 new product to your routine at a time.  If you change up more than one product and have a bad reaction, you won't know which one is causing it.
