Sensitivity

I have recently developed very dry and itchy skin. I keep breaking out all over my chin, cheeks and forehead. I recently had a dermaplane facial and ever since my skin has just been reacting to anything I put on it (whether it be a skincare product or make up). If anybody has any suggestions my skin and I would appreciate it very much. 🙂

RE: Sensitivity

Try something like avene tolerance creme. It’ll help soothe your skin until your natural barrier is restored. Avoid everything with fragrance and acids, at least until things get better

Re: Sensitivity

@samisunn What specific products have you been putting on your face since your dermaplane facial?

You might need to roll your usual skincare routine waaaaay back to something very simple:

  1. Wash with a gentle hydrating/moisturizing cleanser. What's your current cleanser?
  2. Moisturize with something that contains occlusive ingredients (petrolatum, mineral oil, shea butter, etc.). An occlusive moisturizer will act as a protective barrier while your skin heals.
  3. Use sunscreen during the day. A mineral/physical one may work best for you right now.

Did the folks who did your dermaplane facial offer any post-treatment skincare advice?

Re: Sensitivity

I've been using (AM): Cerave SA Renewing Cleanser, Beauty Water toner, Khiels Ultra hydrating moisturizer. (PM): Cerave SA Renewing Cleanser, Heritage Store Rosewater Toner, Argan oil, Khiels Ultra hydrating moisturizer.

My facialist said she has ordered two hydrojelly masks for me and masks for sensitivity.

Re: Sensitivity

@samisunn If you were using a salicylic acid cleanser twice a day after dermaplaning, you likely overexfoliated. I see this post was from a couple weeks ago so hopefully your skin has calmed down some, but if not switch your cleanser to a gentle cream cleanser and stop the beauty water for not since it has mild exfoliants as well.

Re: Sensitivity

@samisunn Hey! I used an ingredient analysis app called Clearya to check out the ingredients in the products you listed. Those are the screenshots below. I couldn't do an analysis on the Argan oil since you didn't specify which brand. If it's 100% Argan Oil, it should be fine, but some brands have the oil as a main ingredient or name the product after it when there's way more inside. Just check the ingredients. I've never heard of the procedure you did so I can't say anything about the side effects, but you should use Clearya to screen your products and when you're buying something new.
