Self tanner advice please

Hi guys I’m new to using self tanners. After my sister got diagnosed with skin cancer with over exposure to the sun, I decided to use self tanners to avoid UV light. I used this product this morning for the first time. I looked at the “how to use” just to be safe. After application I noticed a few blotches but this was on my backside and I noticed stains on my hands I couldn’t get off. I used warm water and soap and rubbing alcohol (91%). It’s still there 😭 haaaallllp

RE: Self tanner advice please

First always use a Hand mitt for application it will alleviate the stains, but more importantly think of the mitt like a makeup sponge , it will deliver a more even blended application than your fingers ever can. Also be sure to read the products directions because some self tanners will work good applied over a moisturizer, it helps it to blend out , but others need to be on clean dry skin with no moisturizer . This can make a big difference. 😉

RE: Self tanner advice please

@tlynnbeauty Are you using a mitt? I use Loving Tan in Ultra Dark once a week and love it. I start by exfoliating the day before and we’ll as the day of. I don’t moisturize, let my body dry completely, then lotion just my knees, elbows and feet. I put on a mitt and place two pumps for each section. I rub it on in a circular motion until it’s all blended. They have applicators with a handle to get your back, but I have my husband do mine. Lol. I go to sleep, rinse it off in the morning with no soap and pat dry. I use my BumBum cream to moisturize and wait 36 hours before I use any body oil. My tan stays dark and even for about 7 days before I start the whole routine over again. It’s a process, but worth it! I am trying to reverse the effects of tanning when I was young. 😩😩😩

Re: Self tanner advice please

Hi @tlynnbeauty, good for you for going the sun-free tanning route! And don't worry, self-tanning takes some practice, so I know it will be easier for you the next time! To remove the stains from your hands, I recommend using a body exfoliator/scrub, preferably something oil-based. Also, for next time, I recommend using an applicator mitt to apply your tanner, as this will result in a more even application, and prevent the stained hands! 🙂

Thank you Stephanie! What kind of mits? Does Sephora sell them?

tarte has a self tanner that includes the mit!
