Retinol-philosophy help me

I have sensitive skin and never tried a retinol but decided to try the philosophy help me. I applied a small amount two days in a row. So far my face is slightly irritated and dry and I got a cystic pimple the next day. Do i push through and keep using? I’m freaked out my skin will get worse. I haven’t used it in 3 days. I’m new to retinol and hear so many good things and to push through the rough parts but I just started and my skin already doesn’t look great. Help! Suggestions please! ā¤ļø heather

Re: Retinol-philosophy help me

Blemishes are under the skin for weeks before they ever reach the surface and become visible. Just remember that retinol speeds up cell turnover so it's normal that you're breaking out since it's bringing those blemishes to the surface quicker.

I've never tried this tip myself but I've had a friend use her retinol AFTER her moisturizer instead of before and that helped with her irritation and dryness. I would also recommend easing into it like others have said. Maybe a few times a week first and then daily. One more thing to keep in mind is that products like retinol take a minimum of 3 months for full results so just be patient. Good luck doll.

@hdx87  I agree with @TrysBeautyItems about easing into retinol and moisturizing.  Also, I'm curious about the concentration of retinol in the product you are using.  Do you know what it is?  It could be that this is too high of a concentration for a beginner.  Best of luck!  šŸ™‚

@hdx87Unidentified Not every skin can handle retinol, even otc strands. Depending on your sensitivities, apply 1x week may be enough. Ease into usage. Tips: apply to completely dry skin, wait 30 minutes after cleansing. When the skin is more opened/damp products can enter the skin faster and more likely to cause irritation. Then wait and moisturize with something basic. Spf daily, retinol can cause sun sensitivity. Patch test 24 hours before using all over, then it's controlled.
