Quick Coverup

I've had hormonal acne for a few months now and the worst part is the scarring. I'm attending an event that pretty much requires I wear makeup, but I'm not sure what products will smooth my face or at least to minimal texture. Now I know makeup is a huge no no when recovering from acne,  so are there any light coverage options? Should I pack on the primer?

RE: Quick Coverup

Hi! So I would start by identifying any ingredients in skincare products or makeup that you’ve noticed make your skin worse. Then I would find an awesome primer to start with. Primer will protect your skin from the makeup so that the makeup doesn’t make your skin worse in anyway. It will also provide a smooth base for makeup application. My all time favorite primer is the MAC Cosmetics Prep + Prime Natural Radiance. I like this product because I have very dry skin and this paired with a light moisturizer hydrates my skin to prevent it from looking dry after applying makeup. Finding a good primer for your skin type will take time and patience. I tried close to 20 different primers before I found one I liked. I recommend looking at some bestsellers in your price range and look at the reviews, they will help. There are a couple that I personally DO NOT like at all that might help narrow the search for you and those are the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, Smashbox Photofinish Primer, and Benefit Porefessional. These are all very well reviewed and best selling, but I did not like them because of their texture. I found these all to be very oily and silky which made my skin feel unclean and not fresh. I also found that they did not create the best base for my face. Now onto coverup! I am personally not a foundation person and I do not wear foundation on the daily, but depending on how you like your finish will help you rule out foundations. So start with thinking about whether or not you like a matte, satin, or radiant finish. This will partially be decided by your skin type. For example, I have dry skin so I gravitate towards radiant finish products because I hate it when my skin looks dry. You mentioned not wanting a ton of makeup on so what I normally do is just using concealer for a couple areas and right now my favorite is the Too Faced Born this Way full coverage concealer. I have seen a lot of amazing reviews about their Born the Way Foundation so that may be worth checking out! Another good all over coverage product could be a tinted moisturizer (I would maybe recommend oil free for acneprone skin), and then if needed use a concealer afterwards for areas that require more coverage. Some great tinted moisturizer that I’ve liked are the Laura Mercier and the Nars Pure Radiant. I think they both make skin look flawless and then absorb well into the skin after applying primer. I think that a tinted moisturizer may be what you’re looking for because they will provide a great amount of coverage and with the aid of a good concealer for areas needing a little more coverage it will make you look like you have makeup on, but in a non-cakey and more natural way! I hope this helps!
