Hi there! I’m 11 and I think my puberty is gonna start soon, does anyone have any products that are helpful with acne? I’m starting to get some in my T- Zone area. I’m a girl as you can tell so tell me advice please!! 😊
@Anonymous My daughter started having acne at 10 and our Dr recommended to use Clean and Clear acne line product because according to her they are more suitable for teen skin. At 12 I took her to paediatric dermatologist and ever since she is using prescription treatment morning and night. She is now 16 and her acne is under control and stays that way as longer she keeps using her treatments.
what I mean to say is, don’t get in fancy stuff. All you need at this point is
- Benzoyl peroxide cleanser
- Clean and Clear spot treatment
- Oil free acne moisturizer preferably with spf 30+ for morning and without spf for night.
- A salicylic acid toner to use a few times a week.
Just remember not to pick the pimples no matter how annoying they look and always use sunscreen during day time, Must wash face before bed and apply spot treatment and moisturizer.
I hope it helps.
Thank you so much! My mom has told me a bunch of things that happen to girls when they are getting older, but I already kinda knew about acne! Thank you again for replying! 😊
Ok so there are a few big things you need to remember.
1. EVERYONE has acne. It is a natural thing that happens. It is also a medical issue so you should definitely feel free to see a derm. Remember that no one has “perfect” skin and you don’t need to let this hold you back because trust me no one notices any imperfections that you may think are huge.
2. Do not over exfoliate. This will make acne worse and destroy your skin’s moisture barrier which will cause your skin to become irritated. You should only exfoliate around 2 to 3 times a week.
3. Diet. There are some foods which will cause more acne in some people. This doesn’t necessarily mean that they do with you or that you should cut them out. But foods with dairy and lots of sugar can cause more acne. Dairy is the biggest one for a lot of people and I find it is also the easiest one to find substitutes for. But also like, ice cream is awesome so don’t feel like you have to cut it out or anything like that but it can help some people.
4. Products and ingredients to look for. The two main ingredients that are used that I know of to get rid of acne are salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Salicylic acid can get into your pores so it is my personal favorite and benzoyl peroxide can lighten your skin as well which I didn’t really love. Also you must use sunscreen. If you don’t you will end up with acne scars that get darker as time goes on. Also with exfoliation it will make your skin more sensitive to the sun. You also need a moisturizer (I would recommend a gel moisturizer the hydro boost water gel from Neutrogena is my favorite) as it doesn’t feel heavy.
So your routine should basically include a salicylic acid wash (my fave is the Cerave one) 2 to 3 times a week, a normal gentle cleanser twice a day when you don’t use the SA one (the foaming facial cleanser from cerave is my other favorite), a moisturizer, and a sunscreen.
summary (also sorry this was so long): basically just keep your skincare routine simple and make sure to use a sunscreen and don’t worry about acne too much or let it limit your life.
Tysm!! 💕 I’m pretty good at keeping my hygiene and skin care up and I usually only eat healthy stuff! (Well except for ice cream)
My biggest advice that I wish I could have received when I was your age is to not pick at your acne! And remember, even if you are washing your face, using a good moisturizer, and basically doing everything right, you might still get acne. Don't panic over it because it is so completely normal, I recommend using CeraVe products and keeping it simple so you don't overstrip your skin!
Thanks!! Once i get my money, I will probably get more skin care products people have recommended
Hi!!
I am just a few years older than you and in puberty. But before I was in puberty, I got some nasty blackheads on my nose. I would use a scrub to help with that.
As far as preventing acne, I would recommend taking all of your makeup off (especially foundation) off your T-Zone at night and using a facial cleanser on that area.
Make sure you wash your face daily, and as many others said make sure your diet is well balanced. If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask me! So awesome you're taking such an interest in makeup and skincare at your age! Have a wonderful day! ❤
Thank you!! I don’t usually wear foundation. I usually only wear mascara, lip gloss, highlighter, and eyeshadow
Hi @Anonymous ! I’m a teenage girl and I’d love to help you out! 💕
Make sure you’re gentle with your skin. Don’t use irritating products like harsh scrubs, or drying cleanser. Instead, go for a simple, gentle routine. I would also recommend Cerave and an amazing brand called the Inkey List, specifically The INKEY List Niacinamide Oil Control Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL . Niacinamide is a great ingredient to help with acne, skin tone/texture and sensitivity.
You should make sure you wear sunscreen every day! SPF is actually the most important part of your skincare routine as it helps prevent skin cancer, and can also help treat and prevent a lot of common skin issues like acne.
If you wear makeup, don’t use makeup wipes! Ever!!! They are bad for the environment and for your skin. Instead, use a micellar water from the drugstore or a cleansing balm.
I second the SEPHORA COLLECTION All Day Hydrator - Hydrate & Glow , it’s great and gentle!
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions, have a wonderful day! Remember you’re beautiful no matter what ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much!! I use Limelife by Alcone and my diet is pretty healthy!
@Anonymous
Coming from a girl who is the same age and dealing with the same problem as you, I use cera ve daily moisturizing lotion. They have different ones for different skin types to. Also remember to wash/cleanse your face every night or morning but not both cause that could cause more acne. I use cetaphil gentle skin cleanser. Hope this helps!! ❤️❤️
Okay! Tysm! My friend uses all of the Cera Ve products and she says they are amazing!!
Hi, @Anonymous! My biggest advice would be to be gentle with your skin. I wish I could go back in time and tell 11 year old me to not throw a bunch of harsh products on my face to try and deal with breakouts.
Start yourself up with a simple, gentle base routine- a hydrating cleanser (cream or gel), a light moisturizer (you didn't mention your skin type, but oily skin typically does better with gel moisturizer while drier skin does better with cream), and sunscreen.
Once you have that in place, you'll be able to add any additional products you need to address specific issues. With acne, I'd focus on either a spot treatment if it's just a few random pimples or you can add a BHA/salicylic acid product if it's breakouts over a larger area.
You might want to start with looking at Cerave as they have some simple, gentle, affordable products. If you notice your breakouts over a larger area, their salicylic acid cleanser would be good to use maybe 3 times a week instead of the regular hydrating cleanser. And my personal favorite spot treatment is CLINIQUE Acne Solutions™ Clinical Clearing Gel 1 oz/ 30 mL but don't forget the moisturizer and sunscreen!
Thank you!! I don’t know if you have heard of this but the company I use is called Limelife by Alcone. My mom does work for them, I’m also a dry skin person
Keep in mind that there is a difference between acne and breakouts! If you’re only getting a couple of pimples here and there, it’s more likely just a breakout that can be treated with a good wash (Dr. Jart Teatreetment Cleansing Foam), a gentle serum (try Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing serum) and a hydrating moisturizer (Sephora Collection Hydrator). But if you have a lot of pimples going on in a larger area, and a lot of them tend to be sore and inflamed, then that would qualify as acne. If that’s the case, touch base with a derm or esthetician for your best action plan. You have baby skin still so you want to make sure that you don’t over do it either ☺️ Dr. Jart+ Teatreement™ Cleansing Foam 4.05 oz/ 120 mL SEPHORA COLLECTION All Day Hydrator - Hydrate & Glow Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum 2 oz/ 60 mL
Thank you!! I appreciate the people who replied to me!
Hi Alli,
I started having acne for the first time when I was 18.
Last spring I started having breakouts and I tried this Clinique Acne solutions treatment I found online!
1. Clinique Acne Solutions cleansing foam
2. Clinique Dramatically Different moisturizing gel
3. Salicylic Acid (it can be from any other brand). Only cover the pimple with it;)
since then my acne has basically disappeared!
However, I would always recommend you to have a healthy diet and lifestyle. As well as consulting a professional:)
Hope this helps!
Okay!! Thank you so much! My diet is pretty healthy I drink a lot of water, fruits, veggies. Much more healthy things!! You can message me anytime for any other advice you have for me!! 🥰
